Designer Pablo Delcán, a visual contributor to the New York Times, recently developed what he calls a “completely useless yet amazing” desktop app. Press a button and Face 1.0 generates a unique face from simple geometric shapes – something of an antidote to the realism of emojis. This mini zine, printed on salmon newsprint, captures the first 30 faces it generated. “There’s something so rewarding about printing something from a computer-generated graphic,” says Pablo. “Bringing the digital into the physical world!” Printed on our digital minis: https://lnkd.in/dYGXQj8

With another technological revolution at our doorstep, we were lucky to have someone who had a few of these close this year's conference: Prof. Erik Spiekermann. His journey in design began as a typesetting apprentice, learning his craft by hand at a printing press. Over the decades, he witnessed—and adapted to—multiple technological revolutions: from letterpress to phototypesetting, digital fonts, and the explosion of the web. As the creator of iconic typefaces like Meta and FF Info, and a pioneer of FontShop, Spiekermann has consistently shaped the intersection of design and technology. He was even the first typographer to sell his own fonts online! Now, with AI transforming the creative industry, we felt his perspective is vital for understanding his view on yet another revolution, and his take was simple: we may see the world with our eyes, read facts, exchange instant messages across the globe, but we still “grasp” things with our hands. AI has collected/gathered/stolen phantastillions of images, words, facts. But it has not been able to collect our experiences – the things we know without ever having said them, read or written them or drawn pictures or taken photographs of them. Check out his talk now in our Youtube Channel: https://lnkd.in/enm8DDw7

New Post: How to Fix the Thin Line Issue During Cricut Print and Cut Process - https://lnkd.in/gSs2PAxC - Here’s an unbelievably annoying problem that occurs during the Cricut Print and Cut process – a thin line or border appears around the design you create, even when you’re certain there’s no border in the design. When you send the design to print in Cricut, this thin line magically appears during the Print Setup stage. If you go ahead with the print and cut, this unwanted thin line remains, which looks like this: Despite multiple checks to ensure no lines exist in my design, the issue persists. I’ve tried various methods to remove this problem, but nothing worked. The thin red line I encountered seems to come from the top part of the design. After numerous experiments, I believe I’ve found a solution. I’ll skip the failed attempts and get straight to how you can solve this problem. If you’re also experiencing a similar issue, follow the solutions below. First, you’ll need an image editing app, like Adobe Photoshop. Open the image and save it as a .PNG file. This step is essential. Next, add a thin white border around the image. Then, expand the image slightly to add transparency all around, like this: Now, export the new image as a PNG file and bring it back into Cricut. Proceed with the Print and Cut process as usual. You’ll notice the thin white lines are gone in the Print Setup. The unwanted lines will also not appear after printing, as shown below. If you’re experiencing a similar problem, try this method – hope it helps! Today I learned a little about Media queries and how important it is to have responsive web design. Responsive web design is the practice of building a website suitable to work on every device and every screen size, no matter how large or small, mobile or desktop. I did 3 media queries, one will turn the background of my sections light green, another will turn the text in the body blue when printing, and the last one adds a border when the screen width exceeds the height.
