Let's go! - At a time when the courts are stripping away my rights as a woman and a person of color daily like they're taking candy from a baby, I need a candidate who has the experience and the values to fight for voiceless and oppressed. Kamala Harris has the background and commitment to help us restore our country’s dedication to these essential rights. - In an era where our nation is grappling with right-wing extremism, divisive leadership, and dangerous, violent anti-American rhetoric, we need a candidate who embodies UNITY and diversity in thought, identities, and perspective. Kamala Harris represents inclusivity and unity. - As political debates increasingly resemble a shit show of reality TV drama, I need a candidate who truly understands and is ready to dive into the issues, actually respects people, and genuinely cares about the future of our democracy. Kamala Harris is that candidate, and for once, I'm here for the next debates. What we gone STOP doing, is pretending that her qualifications and readiness for this role are even questionable. #stoptheDUMBshit
Wanda James, a University of Colorado regent from Denver who is one of the state’s DNC delegates, on Sunday said she was relieved by Biden’s decision. “We knew that this was coming,” she said. “We knew that it had to come. Stop the dumb shit. Get behind Kamala. And let’s move forward. Let’s give her the absolute best vice president that we can have.” James said her first choice to be Harris’ running mate is Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “It’s time. Two of the most powerful leaders in America right now happen to be women,” James said. “Let’s not be afraid of that.” Colorado’s DNC delegates start rallying around Kamala Harris as Biden exits presidential race Jenny DuFresne, PMP https://lnkd.in/gHRJdu2N via @coloradosun

I was asked to provide my insights after participating in the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom program in Germany, which centered on freedom of speech: - The trip and discussions highlighted the need for more open and constructive dialogue between media and political entities from the Global South and North. It’s evident that no nation has exclusive moral authority on free speech; every country deals with issues one has to approach in hushed tones. Discussions around those very taboo topics reveal the true limits of every society's free speech. - The Bundespressekonferenz (Federal Press Conference), where journalists host press conferences and invite government representatives to be grilled, exemplifies a model of transparency and accountability that is admirable. - Effective media collaboration between the developed and developing world requires situational awareness and respect for local contexts, avoiding the pitfalls of parachute journalism. Incorporating decolonial perspectives is crucial for fostering more authentic and equitable global dialogue. I appreciate FNF for enabling uncensored discussions, offering a unique platform for critical exchanges. #GlobalSouth #GlobalNorth #FreedomOfSpeech #DecolonialMedia #MediaCollaboration #FNFProgram #Bundespressekonferenz #Germany #Berlin #Hamburg #Media #Journalism

RATIONALE FOR QUITTING USA PRESIDENT RACE: Joe Biden explains on him withdrawing from this Race for his 2nd Term He had done exceptionally well as the US President in extremely diffficult Covid and Post Covid Times. The only majprblemish on his presidential record will be that USA not standing up for the Palesteine People, Children, Civilians, whose cause was championed by deveral USA Presidents earlier and received even Nobel Peace Prize for their mediation for temporary peace or truce in Middle East. "It's been the honour of my life to serve as president but in the defense of democracy, which is at stake, I think it's more important than any title," he said. "I believe my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for America's future all merited a second term," Biden said. "But nothing, nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy. That includes personal ambition, so I've decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation." "I ran for president four years ago because I believed, and still do, that the soul of America was at stake, the very nature of who we are was at stake," he said. "And that's still the case." "I've made it clear that I believe America is at an inflection point, one of those rare moments in history when the decisions we make now will determine the fate of our nation and the world for decades to come 'Passing the torch to new generation: Biden in Oval Office address' Rediff - 25 Jul 24 https://lnkd.in/gQ-Q7679 #biden #joebiden #president #usapresident #futureofdemocracy #unitedstates #democracy #usa #unitedstatesofamerica #elections2024 #november2024

Johnson’s Kenyan snub Speaker Mike Johnson has decided against inviting Kenyan President William Ruto to speak to a joint meeting of Congress during his state visit to Washington later this month, bucking not only the leader of an important ally but also key lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Ruto would be the first Kenyan leader to address a joint meeting of Congress and the first African leader to do so since Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf spoke in the House chamber in 2006. Ruto, elected president in 2022, will be in Washington on May 23 to mark the 60th anniversary of U.S.-Kenyan diplomatic relations. Johnson’s decision also is a direct rebuke of the top two lawmakers on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and ranking Democrat Gregory Meeks (N.Y.) urged Johnson on April 30 to extend an invitation for Ruto to address a joint meeting. “Such an invitation would underscore the importance of the U.S.-Kenya relationship and send a valuable signal to the people of Africa,” McCaul and Meeks wrote. Indeed, Kenya is a linchpin in heading off Russia’s influence in eastern Africa. It’s a stable democracy and a gateway to the region. The United States is its largest export market. Furthermore, the African Growth and Opportunity Act, first approved in former President Bill Clinton’s last year in the White House and renewed by former President Barack Obama, expires this year. AGOA “provides duty-free access to the U.S. market for most exports from eligible sub-Saharan Africa countries,” according to the Congressional Research Service. To be fair, a joint meeting takes up a lot of energy on Capitol Hill. The chamber closes for hours. It’s a security hassle. And the House leadership loses a big chunk of a day’s floor time. But the floor schedule isn’t exactly jam-packed; Republicans are pushing messaging bills on home appliances, for example. Several foreign leaders have appeared before a joint meeting of Congress lately. Most recently, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida addressed lawmakers and a slew of aides who were called in at the last minute to fill empty seats. Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol have all spoken to a joint meeting during the last couple of years. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is also supportive of Ruto addressing Congress. https://lnkd.in/gy9gFz25

It's in our best interest now for the new generation to take the lead in politics. As much as we appreciate the contributions of those who served our country in the 60s and beyond, the dynamics of the world have evolved significantly. We must grasp these transformations to make informed decisions. Embracing individuals born during the era of rapid technological advancement is key to our progress for the betterment of the future of our country.

The last few months have been difficult for me at times - both professionally and personal. Heck, the last few years have not been the smooth sailing one would wish for. What was not difficult today was taking to the streets in Berlin as part of 150k people that protested for democracy, against fascist and inhuman ideologies. As the huge nerd that I am, I took my old Star Trek Federation flag out into the rain today, because while we might not be in that utopian society it looked like a decent long-term goal. All my work, my learnings and my achievements throughout my career would not have been possible if I had not met and learned from a plethora of people from other countries, with other identities and cultures. Our society as a whole would not be sustainable without a constant influx of innovation, ideas and change. This alone would be reason enough to go and protest. But there is more. Democracy is an incredibly fragile and volatile achievement because it works with a set of moral and ethical rules that their antagonists do not have. The enemies of democracy can lie, intimidate and use violence in order to overcome the rule of law, the systems of checks and balances and the protection of freedoms. If we do not stand up, not only in Germany but in every democracy, we risk losing all that – the freedoms, the justice, the cultural diversity and everything that makes our society worth living. From the bottom of my heart, thank all of you who are democratic activists, who participate in these demonstrations – I will see you out there. #WirSindDieBrandmauer
