🌱 Exciting News from the World of Plant-Microbe Interactions! We’re proud to share the recent publication in #NatureCommunications, where we had the privilege to be part of a fantastic team effort led by Pascal Ratet and Benjamin Gourion . The research uncovered a remarkable rhizobial strain, Ensifer adhaerens T4, which can exhibit both symbiotic and pathogenic traits on legumes depending on the plant’s developmental stage—a rare discovery with significant implications for agriculture and plant science. 🔍 Highlights from the study: E. adhaerens T4 exhibits a dual role, fostering nitrogen-fixing nodules or triggering pathogenic effects on the same host. This adaptability could help us understand the evolutionary link between parasitism and mutualism in plant-associated microbes. These insights open new possibilities for leveraging plant-microbe interactions to support sustainable agriculture. We’re happy to have been part of this collaborative work and to contribute to research with potential applications in sustainable crop production and soil health. 🌱 New Breakthrough in Tomato Stress Detection! 🌱 We are excited to announce the early release of our latest research, "Identification of Drought-Salinity Combined Stress in Tomato Plants by Vegetation Indices." 📝🔍 Our study explores the powerful role of multispectral imaging and machine learning in detecting stress factors like drought and salinity in tomato plants—one of the Mediterranean basin's most vital crops. Using advanced vegetation indices, we achieved over 94% accuracy in classifying stressed plants, offering a cost-effective and non-invasive way to enhance agricultural sustainability in the face of climate change. This research was made possible through funding from the European Union's PRIMA and NextGenerationEU projects, and we are grateful to our incredible collaborators and supporters. 💡 Key highlights: - Remote and proximal sensing methods for fast, accurate crop status assessment. - Early detection of drought-salinity stress using multispectral indices. - Potential for use in greenhouses and open fields, offering scalable agricultural solutions. New developments in tomato farming ready for your table! Prof. Hanokh Czosnek of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment shares the innovative breeding methods designed to produce tomatoes that are resistant to viruses while withstanding increasing temperatures in our climate. The world's major tomato-growing regions are experiencing increasingly hot climates. Today's tomato plants cease to bear fruit above 35 degrees Celsius, and the rise in temperature increases susceptibility to the Tomato yellow leave curl virus (TYLCV). Prof. Czosnek and his team of researchers cross-bred varieties of tomatoes that combine resistance to TYLCV and tolerance to high heat. Resulting in a tomato that yields similar to uninfected plants while tolerating temperatures of up to 52 degrees Celsius.
