Community #Research and Engagement Network event: Mobilising Community Assets in Coastal Communities – What happens next? 15 November 2023, #Blackpool. The Fylde Research Collaborative would like to invite you to an interactive workshop to discuss the opportunities and challenges of our coastal co-production model and how it might be applied in your organisation/setting. The Community for Health Equity Solutions project is the first externally funded project the collaborative have been successful in applying to, and it has been running in Blackpool for the last 9 months. We would like to share learning and insights of the AHRC funded project and others across the Fylde Coast that have a core focus around local system co-production. There will be opportunities to network and exchange views and opinions about how lessons learned can help shape and improve the research infrastructure across all sectors for other coastal areas that contribute to a reduction in health inequalities. This week at #civicacademy2023, we had an inspiring session diving deep into what it takes to create vibrant and inclusive communities. Our spotlight was on the Aurora Resident Council, and their remarkable work engaging North Aurora's diverse population. We learned how ARC is engaging the community through learning events, where residents openly share their hopes, dreams, and concerns for the neighborhood. COVID-19's impact on social determinants of health was a significant topic. Their concerns - safety, health, employment, financial stability, and housing - resonated deeply with all of us. The ARC is forging connections with local community organizations to tackle these vital issues. Together, they're proving that "a united community can achieve many things." 🤝 Aurora boasts multiple anchor institutions, including universities and hospitals. These partnerships help anchor institutions and enhance the local community while also providing opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. This brings back memories of my involvement in an evaluation of the Baltimore Integration Partnership at CU Denver. We conducted a comprehensive mixed methods study on how anchor institutions in Baltimore integrated economic inclusion into their core culture and reshaped procurement policies, transforming the region's business landscape and creating lasting connections between institutions and local businesses.
