This is a really cool component to the Super Bowl story! And, to a layman like myself, the numbers are staggering: the Super Bowl consumes the equivalent power of 46k homes?? 10 megawatts?? But beyond the headline, sustainability for Allegiant Stadium seems to be taken into account throughout. The roof, made of recycled plastic, blocks solar heat - reducing the cost to cool the stadium. The field is moved outside on rails for natural sunlight. Recycling and composting throughout the stadium. Batteries to store ~5 hours of power. It's great to see solar used to power the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl - but taking that next step in sustainability, beyond power, is equally as meaningful. I’ve spent the last two days learning about the state of Minnesota’s plan to get to NetZero emissions. Great information is being shared by all the attendees. Special thanks to Abbey Bryduck, M.A., M.B.A and her team at the Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association for coordinating this event. Key takeaways: 1.) Change is coming. The pace of that change is still undetermined but it’s time to learn and prepare. 2.) There is not one solution that society can implement to reach the goal of NetZero emissions. It will take many conversation’s, innovative solutions, and partnering in our industry to reach NetZero. 3.) Collaboration is the key to success.
