Flame-Proof vs. Non-Flame-Proof Thermostats: Consider area classification and safety requirements when choosing between flame-proof and non-flame-proof thermostats. Automation Integration with Modbus Protocol: Integrate thermostats with lab/Pilot/Scale-up setups for remote operation and control. Also we can program the entire sequence of reaction steps( in terms of heating or cooling or holding at a certain temperature)  for the machine to follow. What is spilt range control? Split range control is a control strategy used in process control systems where a single controller manages two or more control elements (such as valves or actuators) to regulate a process variable. This method is typically employed when a single control loop needs to influence multiple final control elements that have different operating ranges or functions. Key Points of Split Range Control:       1.    Single Controller, Multiple Outputs: In split range control, a single controller generates an output signal that is split into two or more parts. Each part of the signal is sent to a different control element.       2.    Different Operating Ranges: Each control element operates within a specific range of the controller’s output signal. For example, the controller’s output signal might range from 0% to 100%. One valve might respond to the 0-50% range, while another valve responds to the 50-100% range.       3.    Direction of Operation: The control elements can be configured to operate in different directions. For instance, one valve might open as the controller’s output increases, while another valve might close.       4.    Typical Applications:       •     Heating/Cooling Systems: A common example is in heating and cooling systems where one valve controls the flow of hot water (heating), and another controls the flow of cold water (cooling). The controller adjusts these flows based on the desired temperature.       •     Pressure Control: Another example is in pressure control, where one valve might vent gas to decrease pressure, while another adds gas to increase pressure.       5.    Advantages:       •     Efficiency: By using split range control, a process can be controlled more efficiently without needing multiple controllers.       •     Flexibility: It provides a flexible way to control processes with multiple operating conditions or requirements.

How to Select a Fuse for an Automation Panel Selecting a fuse in automation panels is crucial for the safety and efficiency of the system. The following steps and criteria should be considered when selecting a fuse: 1. Load Analysis Type of Load: Determine the type of equipment the fuse will protect (motor, lighting, heater, etc.). Power Consumption: Calculate the maximum current (in amperes) drawn by the equipment. Rated Current: Consider the normal operating current of the equipment. 2. Type of Fuse Fast Acting Fuses: Used in electronic circuits and quickly cut off short circuits. Slow Blow Fuses: Suitable for devices like motors that draw high current at startup. Time Delay Fuses: Resistant to temporary current surges. 3. Fuse Capacity and Rated Current Rated Current: The fuse's rated current should match the rated current of the equipment it will protect. Typically, this value is selected to be around 125-150% of the equipment's maximum current value. Short Circuit Breaking Capacity: The fuse’s maximum short circuit breaking capacity should withstand the highest possible short circuit current in the system. 4. Environmental Conditions Temperature: The operating temperature of the fuse can affect its nominal values. Humidity and Other Environmental Factors: Consider humidity, dust, and other environmental factors. 5. Standards and Regulations Local and International Standards: Fuse selection should comply with standards such as IEC, UL, NEC. Manufacturer Instructions: Follow the technical documentation and instructions provided by the fuse manufacturer. Example Calculation Let's assume a motor's rated current is 10A, and it draws 6 times the current at startup (60A). In this case: Rated Current: 10A Starting Current: 60A Fuse Selection: A fuse within 125-150% of 10A, i.e., between 12.5A and 15A, can be selected. However, it's important to choose a fuse that can withstand short-term high currents. Therefore, a slow blow fuse may be preferred. Conclusion Fuse selection in an automation panel should be carefully made based on the above steps and criteria. Incorrect fuse selection can lead to equipment damage, safety risks, and inefficient system operation. Therefore, it is crucial to use correct calculations and products that comply with standards.

Interlocks definition and it's applications in Process Plants -Interlocks are added to plant design and as a result are shown on P&IDs to maintain safety and prevent damage. to better understand let’s have a look at the following practical example from last projects. The mixture enters the separator, and by means of separator, the process water is separated and then pumped to another unit. As usual, there is a LV which controls level of the separator. The control room operator during start-up, before putting the control valve in auto mode, was adjusting the control valve manually. Instead of opening the valve by 9%, gives the value of 90%. Now a great portion of process water in a moment passes through the control valve and the level decreases suddenly. Look at the picture! The level reaches zero percent and it damages the pump due to no flow. We can’t prevent human error but we can prevent damage to the pump. But how? Interlock. Imagine the level below 20% is dangerous for the pump. How about this idea. We put a comparison block in monitoring system [ DCS/FCS] and continuously receives the actual level and compares it with 20%. It functions in a way that the moment the actual level equals 20%, it sends the signal of 1 in a binary system to the interlock block. The interlock block sends 1 to the motor and since in motor terminology 1 means Stop, then the motor stops. Since the motor is the driver of the pump, the pump also stops working.
