A Resume Tip especially helpful for hoteliers or those aspiring to work in the hotel industry: If you've worked at different properties or restaurants, it helps to highlight or draw attention to some fast facts that can include: # of Rooms # square feet of meeting space # of restaurants on site (if a hotel or larger property) # of seats in restaurant (if a restaurant manager of a solo operation) $ volume of business I typically highlight the first two facts ( # of rooms & # of meeting space) under the name of the property. Example Fictional Hotel Position Title 700 rooms 40k sq ft meeting space (bullet points, highlight accomplishments, etc.) The goal is to give a hiring manager a quick snapshot of the areas you worked and scope you have experienced. If a hiring manager can easily see you've worked at properties where the room count is 300, 250, and 375 respectively, They will likely think one of three things "This candidate can handle a similar role in a 500 room hotel" "This candidate can take on an executive level role in a 200 room hotel" "This candidate can handle a promotion in a 350 room hotel" You are only given a few moments for someone to review your resume, help them help you!! #hospitality #hotels #hotelindustry #resumetips #jobseeksers

"Hospitality staff are expected to appear as if they weren’t even there, so smooth should their interaction and level of service be. When I leave my hotel room as a guest, somehow an employee magically comes in to clean up after me, transforming my room into a wonderfully clean space again. I don’t see the fairies, the Harry Potters, the helpful beings who are responsible for this cleanliness and order. That’s the guest perspective. We tend to under-appreciate the people who do their very best for us. And in this people-intensive industry, where hospitality managers are supposed to produce guest satisfaction and not “just” products, your hiring strategy needs to match staff output. The Ritz Carlton is famous for its service. What is slightly less well known is HOW the hotel chain maintains its service standard. The story of Joshie the stuffed giraffe was the stuff of legends back when it first hit the internet. Since then, there has been an update. When I spoke with people from the service sector, their reply was unanimously, that it would take staff impossible amounts of time and red tape to authorise the actions in both scenarios. It's not about the budget, training or manpower. The structure of the organization that they work for makes it impossible for them to do it. How does the Ritz do this? 3 things. Purpose, people and process. Purpose - The service principle of Ritz Carlton is simple and it permeates every part of the organization, from the way leaders lead to how housekeepers clean the room. Everything reinforces the purpose of "ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen". They are ruthless in cutting out every part that does not fit. People - Ritz Carlton choose who works with them very carefully. In hiring, candidates are tested for a service mentality, to training where the mentality is honed, to their morning 10 minute huddles. Process - Every staff in the Ritz can spend up to $2k without prior authorisation to ensure the customer to deal with customer complaints on the spot. From GM to housekeeper, every. single. staff. member. The actions of the staff would have cost $100 MAX. The coverage is probably worth millions.
