These 5 financial and operational performance stats will surprise you! A county health system (CHS) hired Coker to evaluate and enhance its financial and operational performance. The CHS had 40 multi-specialty providers and a primary hospital with around 150 licensed beds. Our analysis showed that there were several areas of improvement, especially in the revenue cycle, and broader opportunities across medical group operations. After devising an implementation plan with prioritized initiatives and actions, it was evident that CHS lacked the internal resources and leadership experience to manage these efforts effectively. To achieve results, we acted as the interim vice president of the physician enterprise for the next ten months. Our role was to enhance all medical group operations and financial performance and create a sustainable infrastructure and leadership team for the future. If you are starting as a clinician in a a hospital or clinic in America...... consider reading about "value addition in the team and system". It will make a difference in how your career will grow. It will also allow you to understand why the "language you speak" is different than your management leadership's. Most importantly, consider learning about RVU, overhead and reimbursements. It will allow you to negotiate a better salary, next year. Healthcare will continue to get tighter, frugal and painful. Trust and respect are earned traits. Some in healthcare leadership never earn the trust and respect of the people they are intended to lead. The faces of some leaders are quite different from their hearts. Some of us can see right through the smoke and mirrors. What you see is not always what you get. Imagine an executive leader responsible for a large medical group for years, not knowing their physicians were suffering. When did they learn? When personal tragedy struck home. How can they not know of the mental anguish experienced by many physicians in their charge? Simple. They were NEVER present. Ego and hubris are blinding. If you're in a leadership position today, and you don't know the names and faces of the physicians you lead, and you don't know how they feel about their medical practice, resign. Find another day job. But please don't find another day job that monetizes physicians' pain. We see you and hear you loud and clear. Healthcare and medicine cannot withstand one more day of noise and opportunists.
