Software for vehicles is not new. One of my first jobs was developing a prototype embedded product that would measure the commercial vehicle air system, purge the desiccant under specific conditions, and send messages to the engine to rev the RPMs. However, this magnitude has aggressively grown. Stellantis Partners with dSPACE to Accelerate Cloud-Based Vehicle Development Stellantis, a global leader in automotive manufacturing, and dSPACE, a pioneer in simulation and validation solutions, have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance cloud-based vehicle development. The collaboration integrates dSPACE’s VEOS platform for Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing into the Stellantis Virtual Engineering Workbench (VEW), streamlining the development of customer-centric features. The VEW enables Stellantis engineers worldwide to design, test, and optimize software in virtual environments up to a year before hardware availability. With 80-85% of testing conducted on SIL platforms, this approach reduces time-to-market, allowing new vehicle software to be delivered in under two years while enhancing quality. One of the major challenges of working in the automotive industry is the lack of access to proper tools for practicing AUTOSAR and related technologies. The tools are expensive and not available for personal use, so we can only create proof-of-concepts in our free time, often without adhering to industry standards.
