Next week, we will attend the 50th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics in Salamanca 🇪🇸 Joining this event by the European Physical Society (EPS) is an exciting opportunity to both learn about the latest innovations and breakthroughs and share our findings. Our representatives Maxim Nurgaliev and Georgy Subbotin will present two valuable posters. The first will be devoted to validating synthetic magnetic diagnostics based on a free-boundary equilibrium solver for the DIII-D Plasma Control System. The second will focus on the conceptual design of a negative-triangularity tokamak electromagnetic system. 🧑🏫 You are welcome to attend these posters on Tuesday, 9th of July, and Friday, 12th of July. Throughout the conference, we’ll be demonstrating the capabilities of our Fusion Twin Platform, so make sure to save time for it in your agenda. We’ll be happy to greet our old acquaintances as well as meet new fellow enthusiasts inspired by fusion! #FusionEnergy #networking #innovation

This week, the DIII-D Electron Cyclotron (EC) team is providing an inside look at the way they take care of our MW-class EC heating and current drive system. EC wave injection is a versatile way to heat a fusion plasma, make it more efficient, or control plasma instabilities. As shown below, EC waves can be injected and absorbed almost anywhere you want, achieving any one of these end goals. There is also some neat science concerning EC wave propagation, refraction, and absorption in fusion plasmas. From your favorite social media platform you can learn more about this great team, including both Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and General Atomics, managing a powerful system: https://lnkd.in/grkiyDA https://lnkd.in/d2chQ7YW https://lnkd.in/dSdNyW2h #fusionenergy #RF #technology

Working on Quantitative Body MRI? See this useful review article - "Phantoms for Quantitative Body MRI: a review and discussion of the phantom value." by Kathryn (Katy) Keenan, Kalina Jordanova, Stephen Ogier, Daiki Tamada, Natalie Bruhwiler, Jitka Starekova, Jonathan Riek, Paul J. McCracken, Ph.D., and Diego Hernando. Great to see commercially available phantoms referenced ("CaliberMRI, Calimetrix, Sun Nuclear, Gold Standard Phantoms, Modus Medical Devices [now IBA], Resonance Health Ltd, Resoundant, and Spectronic Medical AB") and to learn about research phantoms as well. The article was shared by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and published in Magnetic Resonance Materials in Physics, Biology and Medicine, MRM-P. https://lnkd.in/gpfSGRWn https://lnkd.in/gbYZ4dad https://lnkd.in/gVuGDD5e. #mriphantoms #mri #quantitativemri #mriphantoms #WBMRI #qmriresearch #clinicaltrials #MRIclinicalimaging

💥 World record energy electron beams at kHz accelerated by L1 Allegra laser at ALFA ➡️ The beamline ALFA (Allegra Laser For Acceleration) demonstrated for the first time electron beams with energy up to 50 MeV driven by a 1 kHz laser system. ➡️ This breakthrough has been enabled by using for the first time ever multi-cycle laser pulses to drive laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) in the quasi resonant regime at 1 kHz repetition rate. ➡️ The L1-Allegra laser system has been the first laser worldwide to experimentally demonstrate this unprecedented parameter space. ➡️ This demonstration paves the way for future user experiments on electron acceleration, x-ray generation at kHz and irradiation experiments towards medical applications. The results have been published in the journal Physics of Plasma as a Featured Article: https://lnkd.in/etm6xarH 📖

In our second member Q&A session of 2024 on the 17th April, we discussed enabling technologies for fusion – what are they and what recent progress has been made. Our experts were Rajesh Maingi and Dr. Michael Ford from the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), with a focus on magnetic confinement fusion. Rajesh and Michael spoke about how we are edging closer to realised fusion power, but that there are critical ‘game changing’ technologies which will enable fusion power plants. Fusion devices have only been able to sustain fusion for a few seconds. To produce reliable energy, they would need to run for much longer. But scientists at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) have made a big leap forward in controlling the plasma in these devices in a way that's required to maintain fusion, as covered in CNN: https://lnkd.in/eNtbNE4Z

💥2024 LaserNetUS Meeting plenary talk by Sebastien le Pape, Director of LULI! We are excited to announce that Sebastien Le Pape from Laboratoire pour l’Utilisation des Lasers Intenses (Paris, France) will be delivering a plenary talk on "How Mid-Scale Facilities Contributed to the ICF Program" at the upcoming 2024 LaserNetUS Meeting. Sebastien will discuss the crucial role mid-scale facilities play in the success of Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF). Their flexibility in #diagnostics and #laser configuration allows for the testing of microphysics models such as: ✅Equation of State (EOS) ✅Heat transport ✅Opacity ✅Stopping power These models are later implemented in radiation hydrodynamic codes used to design ICF implosions. Sebastien will highlight key #experiments carried out on mid-scale facilities, addressing both past ICF challenges and future ones posed by the pursuit of Inertial Fusion Energy. This presentation will provide valuable insights into how mid-scale facilities have shaped the ICF program and their importance in overcoming future challenges. This talk is a must-attend for anyone interested in the advancement of fusion energy 🔥 Don't miss out on this chance to learn from one of the leading experts in ICF. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 17th from 2-3 PM Central Time! Looking forward to seeing you in Austin 🤘🏻 #FusionEnergy #LaserNetUS #ScientificResearch #EnergyFuture #ICF #MidScaleFacilities #Innovation #ScienceCommunity #ife #laserfacility #photonics
