🤔 Questions I’ve heard recently: - How do we improve employee participation in ____ ?(boutique consultancy) - How can we get people to adopt ‘new ways of working’? (high street retailer) - How can we foster a culture of learning and development in our organisation? (mid-size consulting firm) - What strategies can we implement to promote sustainable practices, such as reducing energy consumption? (Everyone!) Sometimes I’ve seen a hopeful and simplistic ‘Reward or Sanction’ approach adopted. Sometimes executives will believe that telling people they should do something because the company depends on it will motivate everyone to act fast. Or that more information will help. ❌Sorry, humans aren’t like that. Or put it another way, I know salad and wholegrains are good for me, but cake exists in the world. So what are you gonna do…🤷🏻♂️🍰 🧠I was introduced to MINDSPACE last year via Sprint Valley, and here’s another pragmatic, but simpler framework developed in 2012, EAST. There is no one easy answer when we’re dealing the complexities of human behaviour (that brain is primitive!). But frameworks like this offer a kind of ‘checklist’ and some useful pointers. You’ll need to do to take a creative and experimental approach to this, try some things, measure what works and what doesn’t, and learn from those experiments. #behaviouralchange #behaviourdesign #designthinking #changecommunications
