Here's the harsh truth about Smart Manufacturing that nobody talks about: It’s not just about technology; it’s about culture. We all believe that automation, IoT, robotics etc etc can revolutionize production, but we’ve found that many companies struggle because they dive straight in to the sexy technology but overlook the human element. And in low volume, high mix SME environments the human element is vital, and will remain so. Staff may dig in their heels and try to break change, fearing job loss or being overwhelmed by new systems. Additionally, the transformation demands a whole load of investment in time and cash, not only to obtain the tech but to upskill staff and redefine processes. Without a clear strategy, leadership buy-in, and a focus on people, even the most technically brilliant smart manufacturing initiatives can fail to deliver the expected results. It's not a quick fix—it's a linear journey. Anyone wanna walk the line?
