We need greater awareness about how it is for women in Canada. This post by the department of Women and Gender Equality should be seen by everyone. People do not register the significance of the problem and the impact not just to women, but to their families, and to the company they work for because women become distracted and derailed by the situation that has happened to them. They then can’t focus the same and are caught up in self-doubt about how this could have happened to them in the first place. I’m not just saying this because of what I do for a living, I’m saying this because it has happened to me many times such as: - being attacked in broad daylight while walking along the canal in Ottawa (wrote about it in my book) - past mentors making the moves - taking a client out and they see it as an opportunity to corner me and make the moves - full on assault within just seconds at a live show at a high end venue with my husband right beside me! (wrote a post on this in January 2023) - and it goes on… Those who know me know I have taken action against these behaviours. I have taken people to court and have won. It’s simply intolerable. Here are the ramifications of these instances: - women see men as kids who can’t control their impulses - men who abuse their power don’t realize how weak they look by taking advangltage of the circumstance - it catches up with them eventually. Women need to find their voice and speak up when these things happen. I would say equally important though is the need for men to find their voice. We need a culture where it’s understood that these behaviours are not to be tolerated. By not speaking up, you are essentially complicit with the act. This in turn perpetuates the problem, causing more instances to go unnoticed and creates a negative impact on a company’s bottom line. We need greater: - awareness - social responsibility - empathy - upstanders (not bystanders) It’s time … to lead the change!

Still processing.. Yesterday’s awareness session knocked some hearts. The curiosity and interest of so many working sisters convinced me that this is the right direction. That this is the time to reclaim our inner power, bring unity within and with Mother Earth. There are two ways to approach this challenge: one is the strategic long term work and the other is a tactical one, for practical short term gains.
