As we wrap up another bustling week, I can't help but feel energized and inspired by the incredible work happening in the audio-visual industry, especially in specialized fields like museums, theme parks, visitor centers, and live events. I've seen some phenomenal projects come to life. From state-of-the-art sound systems that narrate historical tales in museums to breathtaking visual displays in theme parks, the talent in our industry is simply astounding. Ahead of Bristol Tech Festival’s Creative Day next Thursday, I’ve been pondering, what exactly is CreaTech? “Surely it’s just creative companies that use tech, and tech companies that enable creativity” That was Joyann Boyce’s fabulously pithy definition. But is it that simple? A swift internet search suggests something a little more verbose thanks to The Creative Industries Council and Digital Catapult: “CreaTech is where creativity meets technology. It brings together creative skills and emerging technologies to create new ways of engaging audiences and to inspire business growth and investment.” You might ask what that looks like in reality, well we’re talking about 3D printing, augmented reality, digital cinematography, digital music, virtual reality, video editing, and video production. Some of my favourite local examples are:  Strange Thoughts who deliver amazing, tech-led, creative for bold brands. We have a unique model of crowd-sourcing expertise from the cutting edge of technology and creative. Air Giants, a creative robotics studio building inflatable, pneumatically-controlled, wonderful creatures. Everyone had phones out to film this spectacle. How was it done? ⤵ When monsters magically appear in the night sky, there's no choice but to pay attention. This was a masterful execution of projection-based AR. Here's how they did it. 1️⃣ Use specialized software to map how a digital object (e.g. portal, monster) would be spatially projected onto a real surface. This lets the team mimic the real environment and plan accordingly (e.g. projection surface size). 2️⃣ Design the projection details to create believable optical illusions when perceived by humans from a certain angle and distance (e.g. movement, 3D). 3️⃣ Complement the video projection with other VFX (lights, fog), and synced audio to create a more immersive audiovisual narrative. 4️⃣ Set up the physical equipment: putting cranes in parking lots surrounding the area where the portal "appears" in the sky, suspending transparent LED tiles / hologram gauze from the cranes, positioning foggers, speakers, projectors and lights. 5️⃣ Watch as a crowd of people are awe struck at a digital illusion brought to life. Kudos to the teams at Kaleida, Method Studios, and Meta for pulling this off.

Today at CMMálaga, Culture & Museums International Tech Forum, we had the pleasure of being surrounded by incredible professionals from the #museum ecosystem. We consider our participation a resounding success. This opportunity came unexpectedly, but we managed to bring everything together in a very short time. This, to us, epitomizes #professionalism. Collaboration: Collaborating with performers in developing narratives and capturing scenes helps in creating more immersive and realistic animated films. 🎭 Use of Standardized Characters and Virtual Cameras Standardized Characters: Utilizing characters designed to handle motion capture data simplifies the retargeting process and improves animation quality. Virtual Cameras: Incorporating virtual cameras allows filmmakers to shoot digital performances in ways that are intuitively similar to live-action shooting, enhancing the realism and immersion of the virtual production.
