April 14th is officially observed as World Chagas Disease Day to raise awareness about the condition among the general population. A potentially fatal disease caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, it affects around 7M people worldwide. Chagas disease, aka American trypanosomiasis, is mostly constrained to Latin American countries. Navigating the Challenges of Lyme Disease Diagnosis Diagnosing Lyme disease is notoriously difficult due to its diverse symptoms and similarity to other diseases. The most common tests, ELISA and Western Blot, are helpful but have limitations, including the potential for false negatives. Advances in PCR testing, which detects bacterial DNA, are improving diagnosis accuracy.
