A recent analysis by HelpAge International uncovered a startling truth: only 0.1% of the aid allocated for gender equality actually includes older women. It’s alarming that the international community is overlooking their needs. We must do better and strengthen our focus on including older women in global gender policies and programming. Many of us hope for a world where gender equality is no longer an aim but a reality. However, I also want a world where girls and women of all ages are included and we understand the intersecting identities that make each of us. Older women are currently invisible from debates on gender equality and their needs and rights are being ignored by many of those promoting gender equality. Our new report shows that only 0.1% of aid dedicated to gender equality includes older women despite women over the age of 50 accounting for 27% of the female population. Please read our report for more details: https://ow.ly/gKTL50TJAFI As we review progress on gender equality and women's empowerment as part the Beijing +30 processes, we need to ensure that older women are included and their voices are heard. Let’s work together and ensure gender equality is a reality for ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS.
