I went to a great presentation from Jessica Truong (Is Zero Road Trauma Possible?). I always come away inspired and energised when I listen to great presenters talk about worthwhile topics. One thought from this presentation was about places who have achieved some parts of Vision Zero. As a parent of three fun and frustrating kids, I (maybe selfishly) believe that children’s safety should be the priority for society. Our children don’t have licences; they invariable have little control over the harm that is inflicted on them. "There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children. There is no duty more important than ensuring that their rights are respected, that their welfare is protected, that their lives are free from fear and want and that they can grow up in peace." -- Kofi Annan Each year, around 300 children die or are seriously injured in road crashes in NZ (source www.at.govt.nz). As a society, shouldn’t we be putting the safety of our Tamariki first? The below is a confronting video (40 minutes) from the UK that a friend shared with me.
