This one was certainly damaged by the windstorm. So much of the rest of the building was also.  The strangest part was the insured would not give us any information on the status of the roof before the storm. It was just something that nobody would be straight with us about.  We mentioned it to the PA, who was our client. He tried and had no luck either. I mentioned to him that something is there that is going to be a problem.  Fast forward to Mediation a year later. The Attorney for the Carrier slid a copy of a lawsuit against a roofer that was filed but he insured 3 months prior to the peril. Shortly to follow, a settlement was reached that was roughly 20% of the demand due to the fraud by the insured. It seems someone other than the carrier should have done the due diligence before all of this. Nothing is worse on these larger claims than a dishonest insured!
