Just returning from the 4th #QatarEconomicForum #QEF, Powered by Bloomberg ✈️ With >50 nations’ elections ahead and their impact on global geopolitical risk, economic disruption and global trade and investment, discussion around energy transition, oil price scenarios and their influence on trade as well as on #global / regional / national economies, the conference timing was spot on. 🌍💡 The Forum provided multiple, sometimes controversial perspectives. 💯 On the speed of the energy transition, a unanimous view among H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, QatarEnergy President and CEO, Patrick Pouyanné TotalEnergies Chairman & CEO, and Darren W. Woods, ExxonMobil, Chairman & CEO seemed to be prevailing: The climate ambition and its necessity is given, a “reality check” with regard to speed of the transformation, reflecting on the growing energy demand, the supply-demand balance as well as a consumer and regulatory behavior is recommended by the panelists. As part of the EU-funded project EU Climate Dialogues (EUCDs), our sister company Integral RISE is facilitating policy dialogue and information exchange in Egypt to support the implementation of the EGY-EU Green Hydrogen MoU. Under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU delegation to Egypt, three dialogue events will take place on April 29-30 and May 8th, 2024, bringing together stakeholders from the EU and Egypt to discuss the potentials and challenges of establishing a strategic partnership on green hydrogen. We are honoured to have collaborated with Green Hydrogen Organisation - GH2 to develop a guidance and fiscal modelling tool for The Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA) member countries. This tool enables member countries to understand, analyze, and model the implications of different fiscal terms, adapting them to their specific contexts while formulating policies related to green hydrogen and its derivatives. We are looking forward to hosting a four (4) day hybrid workshop in #Abidjan #Coted’Ivoire from 10th – 13th  December 2024 to help develop a comprehensive framework that enables cross-border cooperation for skills sharing in the #African Energy sector. This sector continues to face #CapacityBuilding challenges due to varying levels of expertise, resources, and governance structures across different countries.  It is undeniable that cross-border knowledge sharing, and #StrategicCooperation are essential to address these disparities. A framework for cooperation in skills sharing should facilitate the exchange of expertise, #bestpractices, and innovations in the #AfricanEnergySector. The workshop brings together continental, regional, and national partners like the African Development Bank Group, African Union Commission, African Union Development Agency-NEPAD, African Forum for Utility Regulators, #APUA, #AFCSEC, and Sida . Also participating are #RegionalEconomicCommunities #RECs, #SADCSADCSADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), #CentresforRenewableEnergyAndEnergyEfficiency #PowerPools, #RegionalRegulatoryAuthoritiesAndAssociations, relevant ministries, energy centres, and accreditation bodies. As #AFREC we are seeking to build on existing cooperation initiatives, introduce new strategies for skills sharing, and formalise partnerships that will ensure long-term, sustainable collaboration. The second part of the workshop will involve a review and validation of the #AfricanEnergyTransitionStrategyAndActionPlan #ETSAP, which has been developed as part of the #AfricaEnergyTransitionProgramme #AFRETRAP that embodies the African Union’s vision for a low-carbon energy future.
