Interesting: obviously, at a micro scale, emergency services are slowed down by traffic-calming. BUT https://lnkd.in/gS29raMZ but in the real world there's loads of things that impede emergency services, including general traffic (which is reduced by traffic-calming). In context, what proportion of trip delay is caused by traffic calming? Has anyone looked into this in NZ?
I recall this study of London's Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (which include full modal filters blocking some streets to motor vehicles) showing no statistically significant effect - including, in one case, where the LTN's traffic calming did slow down emergency vehicles relative to non-LTN streets but the LTN-caused reduction in *general traffic* sped up the emergency vehicles so much it nullified the delay! https://lnkd.in/gMn7WmFX
