Nodding as I read thru the 8-page report. It would be interesting to hear the perspective of our women presidents in mentoring the next generation of women leaders. Building community with Women in Policy: Kanchan Ojha, president of OSU’s Women in Policy student group, discusses how the club supports the professional endeavors of its members and strengthens the knowledge of anyone interested in learning more about public policy. Despite consisting of roughly half the population in the U.S., women are drastically underrepresented in public policy positions. In the United States Senate, as of 2023, only 25 percent of seats are filled by women with only 3 percent filled by women of color. In the House of Representatives, 28.5 percent of voting members are women, equating to 124 seats, plus four women serving in non-voting seats. As for state governments, women make up 32.7 percent of state legislatures and 24 percent of governors. These statistics, however, belong to an upward trend over the past several decades. Women’s representation in politics continues to grow as organizations and individuals dedicated to this cause push for women’s voices in positions of power. Via Vanessa Jupe: “For the first time in 20 years, there will be no women leading House committees”. Its not a pipeline problem or even that we didn’t vote any women in congress: in the current and upcoming congress we had and will have 31 Republican women and 94 Democratic women. It is the same problem in business: women are not being promoted. When it comes to promotions to the highest positions (or VC investments) unconscious bias and homophily rule - research shows that these flourish when there is not a formal and data driven objective process to select and promote. This is why I want to dedicate the second half of my life to the two causes I am most passionate about: 1. Empowering female founders and investors 2.
