Senior researcher Marilia Barandas is in Oakland, USA, at the WTS Wireless Telecommunications Symposium, presenting the paper “Iterative wireless node localization based on Bluetooth and visible light for smart lighting systems”. Smart lighting setup in modern buildings is crucial but often slow and manual, especially in large areas. This study presents a new method to make configuring smart lighting faster and automated. It uses Bluetooth signals and light sensor data from the lights to determine their positions automatically. The approach combines a distance-estimating model, a positioning algorithm based on Bluetooth signal strength, and light measurements to understand how close the lights are to each other. Real tests prove it can place lights accurately over 90% of the time, significantly speeding up the setup process. The study was developed in cooperation with our partner Tridonic. #remarkabletechnology #impactinglives #smartlighting #bluetooth
