Advocacy matters because it impacts everyone that's involved in Hospice and palliative care. And it's important to know that providers do have a role to play when it comes to advocating for big issues. And the good news is that advocacy is much easier to do than people may think. The same way you have to plan and think about coming into this world, you need to plan and think about leaving this world. And having the Hospice benefit just helps do that in such a smart, wonderful, all-encompassing. OK. You know, advocacy is really one of the most important things that our members can engage with. It's really critical that we demonstrate the value of Hospice and the value of Congress investing in our benefit, investing in Hospice. I think storytelling is the most important component of any form of lobbying advocacy efforts. Really crafting your narratives, tell your unique story is what makes the difference, and those personal touch points are what are going to develop and build and maintain those. Relationships for years to come. Coming from a social work perspective, we tend to want to spend our time in direct practice. We like working with people. But what I would say is please, please get out. Have your voice heard. It's a really important one. And it's OK if you don't know everything and it's OK if you're not quite sure how to make it all happen. There's lots of folks out there who will support you and encourage you. And your voice matters. It really does. The ability to take someone's hand and walk them through the process of correcting misinformation and opening their eyes to just how great the Hospice service is has been the biggest benefit to me as an advocate and also the the greatest reason to be an advocate. We want to strengthen, we want to preserve, we wanna make sure that this is a is a piece of our healthcare continuum that stays in existence and grows and builds over time. Love this. One of my most cherished duties is writing the “Why Hospice, Why Now?” letter to the team after my individual and family assessment is complete. Storytelling is a major part of hospice and I love that people trust me to share their stories with the medical team as they enter into hospice services. It also further helps me advocate for un-addressed needs for the IDG team. Before a single provider walks through the door of one of our patients, they will have a complete picture of every aspect of this person’s life. #advocacy
