🚨 Important Update! 🚨 The national minimum wage has been increased to £11.44, ensuring fair compensation for workers across the UK. However, it has come to light that some agencies, promising low rates to care homes for temporary staffing, are directly causing staff to be underpaid. It's crucial to note that after considering Working Time Regulations (WTR), Employer's National Insurance (ENI), and pension contributions, the limited company rate often amounts to £14.44. This makes it impossible for care staff to be paid the minimum wage. We want to make it clear: paying workers less than the minimum wage is not only unethical but also illegal. Here at FirstActive, we believe in operating ethically and lawfully. You won't find us compromising on fair pay for our staff. If you're seeking an agency that values ethical practices and ensures well-paid staff, look no further. Contact us today to discuss how we can support your staffing needs while upholding the highest standards of integrity and legality. Together, let's ensure fair treatment and compensation for all workers in the care sector. #EthicalEmployment #FairPay #FirstActive #CareSector 🌟

Well done, Glasgow Wood 👏 Lovely to see local charity/SME committing to this voluntary action. #moreofthis According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission: Pay systems that are transparent and reward the entire workforce fairly: -send a positive message about your organisation’s values -increase efficiency and productivity by attracting the best employees and reducing staff absence and turnover -form a key part of your organisation's corporate social responsibility - increasingly important for many stakeholders Providing equal pay for all employees will also reduce the risks of facing an equal pay claim and help avoid: -Expensive legal fees which could cost thousands of pounds -Lost productivity as management gather evidence and deal with tribunal hearings -Damaged employee relations and low staff morale -Cost of tribunal decisions - in addition to their own legal fees, employers who lose have to pay the claimant a financial award, which could include up to six years’ back pay and, in some circumstances, the claimant’s legal fees -Loss of reputation with customers, shareholders and potential employees -Possible further audits ordered by a tribunal https://lnkd.in/d-GRv6pV.
We're very pleased to confirm that we're now a hashtag #LivingWageEmployer! This means that every employee within the Glasgow Wood team receives a minimum of £12 per hour. 📢 LinkedIn Update: Supporting Our DWP Jobcentre Security Guards On July 17th, outside the Supreme Court in Westminster, security guards from DWP Jobcentres gathered to demand fair wages and better working conditions. Despite providing essential services, these guards are struggling to afford basic necessities due to inadequate pay. 🔴 Key Issues Highlighted: Minimum Wage Struggles: Many guards, earning the national minimum wage of £11.44 an hour, are forced to turn to food banks and borrow money to make ends meet. Rising Costs: With living costs soaring, the current wages offered, the security contractor, are insufficient. Inadequate Pay Increases: The proposed 6.5% pay rise from April 2023 and an average 9.3% increase from December 2023 are below inflation, leaving workers trapped in poverty. Dangerous Jobs: These guards perform crucial and often dangerous roles to ensure the safety of everyone at Jobcentres. 🗣️ Voices from the Rally: Jamiu Ibarapa: "We can't afford to put food on our tables. they needs to explain why our wages aren't keeping up with the rising costs." Tony Smith: "I couldn’t afford to heat my home last winter. We need a fair wage and better working conditions." 🔍 Broader Impact: The strikes have led to Jobcentre closures nationwide, affecting some of the most marginalized communities. The unions call for the new government and DWP to ensure decent working conditions and fair pay for all. 📆 Ongoing Actions: The strike continues until July 21st, with the next round scheduled from July 29th to August 4th. Let's stand in solidarity with our security guards, who ensure our safety daily. They deserve fair wages and dignified working conditions. https://lnkd.in/e_Qp4Xde #SupportOurGuards #FairWages #Jobcentre #DWP #CostOfLivingCrisis #WorkersRights #Solidarity

AGED CARE NEWS: Albanese Government Proposes Delay in Aged Care Wage Rises to Avert Labor Shortages The Albanese government has put forth a proposal to postpone the anticipated wage rises in the aged care sector. This proposition aims to delay a significant 23 percent wage increase for aged care workers by nearly two years. The rationale behind this decision lies in the fear that such a substantial pay surge could inadvertently exacerbate labour shortages by drawing workers away from other crucial sectors. Opponents of the government's proposal argue that delaying the wage increase further compounds the injustices faced by aged care workers who have long endured low pay and challenging working conditions. Postponing the wage rise, they argue, only perpetuates the cycle of undervaluation and exacerbates the existing workforce crisis. Proponents of the delay, on the other hand, emphasise the need for a balanced approach that considers the broader implications on the labour market. By phasing in the wage increases over a longer period, they suggest, the transition can be smoother, allowing time for adjustments and preventing sudden disruptions across the labour market.
