As you settle into 2024, give thought to your New Year’s resolutions…What psychological needs or parts of you need or have been wanting your attention? Though you may not want to attend to these parts, though it may not be fun or sexy, try turning your attention toward these parts anyway. Do it in small bits, perhaps with some support from a loved one or psychotherapist. Talk about what it’s like to have these parts and to turn toward them with someone you trust. To use Jack Kornfield’s words, metaphorically speaking, invite these unwanted feelings or thoughts or needs in for a quick cup of tea. Be brave and curious by doing something different and see what unfolds.
