Founder & Director @ Heal@Home | Breaking Barriers to Alcohol Treatment | Advocate for Reducing Stigma | Championing Compassionate Care
🤔 Did you know that obesity and alcohol consumption may be linked to an increase in colorectal cancer deaths in young adults? 😱 According to a recent study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the combination of #obesity and heavy alcohol use may be contributing to the rising number of #colorectal cancer deaths in young adults. The study found that young adults who were obese and drank heavily were at a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer and dying from the disease. This is a concerning trend, as colorectal cancer is typically considered a disease that affects older adults. So, if you're a young adult who is overweight or obese and enjoys #drinking, it's important to be aware of your risk and take steps to reduce your chances of developing colorectal cancer. 💪🏼👍 https://lnkd.in/eKhRt7sR

Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer in men, affecting 3.3 million individuals in the United States in 2020. Although most patients present with localized disease at diagnosis, 1 in 9 have PC that will eventually progress to metastasis, with a 5-year survival rate of 34.1%. Visit JMCP to review a study in which it was determined that nearly two-thirds of men who advanced from stage IV prostate cancer to stage IV castration-resistant prostate cancer received substandard treatment before progression. Following disease progression, total health care costs were 1.5 to 2 times higher, and these men used more medical services, including hospital and outpatient visits. Happy New Year! Are you up to date with your routine health checks? According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, most of us visit the GP only after we get sick, with many men aged 45-64 avoiding the doctor altogether. Of concern, only 36% of prostate cancers are detected at Stage 1 when the disease is easiest to treat. Proactive cancer checks significantly enhance survival rates across the spectrum of major cancers, including prostate cancer. If you or your loved one need more information on prostate cancer risks and early detection, call our team on 1800 22 00 99. Read more in Starts at 60's feature article here: https://lnkd.in/gXV6PRPr

Rare cancers are rare occurrences of a common disease affecting less than 6 per 100,000 individuals a year or one in five new patients diagnosed with cancer. Because of the rarity, we have to face multiple challenges in the care and understanding of this rare disease. Learn more about rare adult solid cancers on our website (link in our bio)! Tumour markers are used to staging, define risk stratification, prognosis, monitor treatment response and detect disease relapse. They need to be measured before and after orchidectomy. Serum half-lives of AFP and β-hCG are five to seven days and one to three days respectively. If these remain elevated or increase metastatic disease is likely, although marker normalisation after orchiectomy does not exclude the possibility of metastatic disease. With follow-up, the precise frequency of testing is not well defined. This recommendation comes from the EAU Guidelines on Testicular Cancer, Edition 2024. #TesticularCancer #EAUguidelines Recommendations are posted daily on 'X' and weekly on LinkedIn.
