Another good step in the long slow process of restoring the watershed of the L.A. Basin. Restoration of the historically connected L.A. & Rio Hondo Rivers and Ballona Creek watersheds is critical to aiding the endangered southern steelhead by allowing them to migrate up from the ocean to their spawning grounds in the Santa Monica, San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains.

🚨 OHIO RIVER LOW WATER CONDITIONS UPDATE 🚨 Due to near- or below-normal precipitation anticipated in September, the middle and lower Ohio Valley is forecasted to develop low water conditions from most of Ohio and Indiana southwestward to the Ohio/Mississippi Rivers' confluence. Beginning on August 15, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) Water Management team has been conducting low flow operations to minimize impacts felt by flow fluctuations along the Ohio River exacerbated by the low flow/drought conditions, and balance conditions along the Lower Ohio River as they pertain to navigation and hydropower demands. Today, September 5, the Cairo Gage was at 10.87 feet and projected to fall to 9.2 feet Monday September 9th.   U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District has routine contracted dredging operations underway from Ohio River Mile 969 downstream to Olmsted Locks and Dam which are expected to continue until September 18. At that time, Louisville District will assess and determine where next to employ dredging based upon low flow conditions. Currently, there have been no state requests for Public Law 84-99 drought assistance and no drought related Coast Guard navigation restrictions along the Ohio River. #Essayons #USACE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District reports that the President's Fiscal Year 2025 Budget request includes more than $122 million in federal funding for the district's civil works program. The Pittsburgh District’s 26,000 square miles include portions of western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, eastern Ohio, western Maryland, and southwestern New York. Our jurisdiction includes more than 328 miles of navigable waterways, 23 navigation locks and dams, 16 multi-purpose reservoirs, 42 local flood protection projects and other projects to protect and enhance the nation’s water resources, infrastructure and environment. For years, many voices have been calling for a civilian, veteran-led initiative to respond to fires, floods and other aid to civil power challenges. The CDS is absolutely right that the military is not the proper resource. Veterans groups like Treble Victor Group should convene a national summit and present a national plan for groups like Team Rubicon Canada to serve this role for Canada. What do you think? US Army Corps of Engineers reinforced post-Katrina New Orleans against a '100-year storm.' After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, essential engineering changes were made to the city. Drafted in to reinforce the city’s defenses against natural disasters, US Army Corps of Engineers were tasked with constructing a two-mile long, 26-foot high flood wall, improved pumps and a much-improved canal network to prevent future flooding. Meant to prevent a “100-year storm” (an extreme weather event with a 1% probability of occurring in any given year), the US Army Corps of Engineers went above and beyond to protect the city against future floods by factoring in how flood levels may look in 30 years time. #kansasengineer #helpingclientsprosperandgrow #floodbarrier #USACE #NewOrleans #engineers #engineering

Now about the other bridges across the nation whose at-risk posture was glaringly exposed .... the "federal channel" under each one will need a serious at-risk re-profiling and management approach for everyday use ...... that is the greater challenge ... ...and condolences, and good wishes to the injured, missing, and lost ... again ... Redundant monitoring with active sensors -- no new science here, just pervasive data on all corridor assets, with a corresponding link or engageable proximity radar, and support with auxiliary craft -- a "TSA" for the maritime routes and assets -- long overdue... in the current scenario of state-sponsored instability -- where no end is in sight -- and manifest and applicable tools and instruments abound for the the interruption, and disruption by less than savory, and or otherwise inclined actors ... #RRM #corridor_monitoring #sustainable_infrastructue #applied_science
