This is a solid primer on addressing the challenges of starting a role working remotely. When COVID hit, I remember hearing from a number of recent graduates who found it difficult to work 100% remotely. They cited things like the inability to build relationships with colleagues, the lack of a tangible team and company culture, and feelings of isolation. Edgerton lays out some actionable tips that can help address these and other potential roadblocks to working remotely. https://bit.ly/45cNP9m #workplace #hr #careeradvice #remotework

I came across another article from Harvard Business Review, here's my take on it. Regardless of whether you're a recent graduate or an experienced professional, transitioning to remote work comes with its fair share of challenges. However, by adopting the right strategies and mindset, you can successfully navigate through this. Here's a few challenges I see in both cases: For recent graduates: 1. Isolation and loneliness due to lack of in-person interactions. 2. Distractions in a home-based work environment. 3. Communication gaps arising from asynchronous work and technical difficulties in a remote setting. In the case of experienced professionals transitioning to remote work: 1. Adjusting to new communication tools and virtual collaboration methods. 2. Maintaining work-life balance and setting boundaries when working from home. 3. Adapting to a more autonomous work style and managing time effectively without direct supervision. Ultimately, embracing the benefits of remote work while being aware of the potential challenges is key to thriving in this new environment. Be patient with yourself, experiment with different approaches, and don't hesitate to reach out for support when needed. With persistence and a willingness to learn, you can successfully transition to remote work and enjoy the flexibility and opportunities it provides. Did you join an organization during the pandemic? Or do you work in a fully remote team and found joining it was challenging? If so, read this article by author Kennedy Edgerton where he discusses three "unique challenges that come with starting your career remotely: Challenge: Solution 1- Isolation and Loneliness: visit a coworking space or a coffee shop, join a club or intramural sports team, or work from a friend or family member’s house. 2- Distractions: establish boundaries with those around you and adjust your environment/routines, have a dedicated workspace, remove entertainment systems from that space 3- Communication gaps: take notes, get clear directions, and review similar past projects for reference" Full time remote work can be especially challenging for people just entering the workplace so reach out and mentor someone if you can. #remotework #futureofwork #workfromanywhere #isolation #connection #distractions #boundaries #communicationgaps #selfawareness #mentorship https://lnkd.in/ghWw57ui
