Lessons From Our Cooler GOATs I absolutely loved this recent campaign of recognizing the Cooler GOATs over the summer. Our customers honored over 100 team members for their ability to go above and beyond when it comes to cold beverages! If you worked in the convenience industry for long, you know the importance the summer season means to your bottom line. Not to mention a satisfied customer experience, ready to return again and again, with their favorite beverage in hand to beat the summer heat.    Now, if you have ever had the pleasure of stocking a cooler in a convenience store, you know it takes a specific set of skills to do it right. I mean end to end, organizing, facing, and making it your masterpiece for the day. Where you step back and just think, “yeah – that’s how it’s done.” Earlier this year I noted the unique talent these team members share, but what better time than now to bring it front and center. Cooler GOAT Skills 1.    Execution: Making sure every row was placed as it was intended. Every flavor, every size, every brand. It mattered to you. 2.    Discipline: Each and every time, you knew what it would take to get the job finished. You created a system that worked for you. Organize, re-position, arrange, prepare. 3.    Focus: You stay at it until the job is done. If you get pulled away, you pick up right where you left off. Nothing knocked you off your target. No matter what the obstacles brought to you that day. You got GRIT. 4.    Teamwork: You made sure the backstock was ready for the team to easily restock. You set them up for success. This effort would inspire the next shift to keep paying it forward. You lead by example. 5.    Pride: When it was done. I mean really done and you look back, you know you gave it everything. And you were looking forward to the next delivery. And ready to do it all again. Execution, Discipline, Focus, Teamwork, and Pride are all qualities of a Cooler GOAT. Thank you to all the frontline teams for being there day in and day out. You never quit; you stay at it. You get it done. I love everything about this campaign - recognizing those dedicated experts who make sure their coolers are always in perfect operating condition – aka Cooler Coat G.O.A.T. We serve frontline people every day at Ready Training Online (RTO), now it’s time to give a shoutout to their performance – day in and day out! That cold beverage you grab on a hot summer day didn’t get there by itself! If you are in the convenience business, you know what I’m talking about. That team member who takes pride in every aspect of the cooler; instock, clean, faced, back area organized, and the entire team knows how to keep it that way. Keeping the cooler stocked, and standing tall takes discipline, focus, teamwork, and grit. The G.O.A.T. also has a deep sense of pride. Often when the rider simply leads their horse up to a mounting block and puts it in position THEN scurries up the steps - the horse moves it's hip away as the rider gets to the top of the mounting block. This is frustrating. There is a better way. Watch sessions one and two of Nutmeg (3yr old Gypsy Vanner) learning to pick up her rider from a raised mounting platform. The objective is to get the horse to accept it as their responsibility to put themselves into position so it is easy for their rider to mount them from ANY raised mounting platform which the horse can move up against safely.
