A mother's three-year search for the correct diagnosis for her son's chronic pain has finally come to an end, thanks to AI. After visiting 17 specialists with no luck, she turned to @chatGPT and entered all of her son's symptoms and MRI data. OpenAI's AI system then spit out a diagnosis that medical professionals had not previously made: tethered cord syndrome. This is a childhood condition in which the spinal cord becomes tethered to its sheaths or surrounding tissue. A neurosurgeon confirmed the diagnosis and performed surgery on the boy. This is a perfect example of how AI tools like ChatGPT can provide invaluable assistance to medical professionals and patients alike. But again the danger of sharing so much data to the public facing part of AI.
