I recently celebrated my 36th work anniversary with Furst Group (rocking that 90’s hair)! As I look back on my career so far, I’m struck by how much I’ve grown—professionally and personally. Every step of the journey has taught me something valuable. Here are a few lessons that have shaped who I am today. 1️⃣ Growth starts outside your comfort zone. The moments I once feared the most in the beginning—speaking up in a meeting or speaking at a conference—and later—acquiring an existing company and starting a new one—were the ones that taught me the most. You grow when you dare to try. 2️⃣ Failure is part of the process. I used to fear making mistakes, but now I see them as stepping stones. Each failure brought lessons that no success could have taught me. 3️⃣ Never stop learning. The world—and the workplace—evolves constantly. Staying curious and continuously building my skill sets have kept me adaptable and open to new opportunities. 4️⃣ Celebrate progress, not perfection. It’s easy to get caught up in chasing the next milestone. But I’ve learned to pause, reflect, and appreciate how far I’ve come—even if there’s more to achieve. Today marks my 6th anniversary at OneGoal, and I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. It’s been an incredible journey, and to celebrate, I want to share three reflections that have shaped my time here: 1. Self-care is everything. In a mission-driven space like ours, it’s easy to pour endlessly into the work. But I’ve learned that I can only bring my best self to this team and our students because we truly value each other here. People matter, and that makes all the difference. 2. Diverse experiences lead to lasting impact. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to 4 out of the 5 functional teams in our region. Each role brought its own set of challenges and growth, but it’s in these varied experiences that I’ve been able to shape our systems and help drive our program’s success. I’ve seen firsthand how every perspective strengthens us. 3. Lead with, not above. As a leader, I’ve learned the importance of doing the work alongside my team. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation, and I’ve continued to develop not only as a professional but also as a partner to those around me. It’s the relationships we build that make the work meaningful. Here’s to many more years, even greater impact in NYC, and continuing to grow with each of you by my side.

Guess what, folks? On June 25th, I'll be celebrating my 3 month anniversary at Trickle! 🎉 👉 Did you know that the three-month mark is a pretty big milestone when you start a new job? You'll begin to feel that you've understood the problem area, figured out the team dynamics, and gained confidence in your responsibilities. A little story from the trenches: I remember walking into the office on my first day, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, full of excitement and anticipation. My dynamic duo of coworkers, Mike and Cameron, were already brainstorming ways to make the world a better place while I was still trying to figure out where the coffee machine was (not that I needed it, but Mike practically has an IV drip of the stuff). Mike, our fearless CEO, is a master of many trades 🦸♂️💥 Need an answer to a question? Mike probably has it before you're done asking. He's like a caffeinated superhero with a (mostly) great sense of humor, the kind of leader who makes you feel like you're part of something big. Cameron, on the other hand, is our resident wizard 🧙♂️🔥 No, seriously, he can make code do things I didn't even know were possible. I once saw him debug a problem so fast, I swear his keyboard started smoking. But don't let that fool you - everything has to be meticulously organized, and I half expect him to start sorting our conversations into pivot tables. Together, they've helped me navigate this exciting journey, and I couldn't ask for better partners in crime. Here's to more adventures, more breakthroughs, and more terrible jokes in team meetings (we really need to work on our stand-up routines). Thank you, Trickle, for an incredible three months. We sat down with Matthew to talk about his tenure at Krause, his accomplishments, and the many lessons learned over the years. Q: What is the key to staying successful in your 10-year tenure? A: "The key has been a combination of adaptability and a deep passion for innovation. Over the past decade, I’ve embraced new trends, challenges, and opportunities, always staying curious and driven to deliver unique and inspiring solutions." Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned in the last 10 years? A: "The most valuable lessons I’ve learned happened when everything was “going wrong.” It is in these moments where we have the choice to give up or use it as fuel for growth. It is the power of collaboration. While individual creativity is important, the most successful projects are born from a team effort, where diverse ideas come together to create something truly remarkable." Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of? A: "It is an interesting thing summing up one’s experiences over the course of 10 years. I’m incredibly proud of our team and leadership’s ability to push creative solutions and not being satisfied with the “status quo.” Over the decade, I was given opportunities to use my creativity nature to lead several in-house advancements to the company. This has not only brought fresh, creative solutions to our internal team, but also experiences to our clients that has had a lasting impact on Krause’s outreach. Each one stands as a testament to the importance of a company that allows you the ability to stay curious about the world around each of us and the community at large. Hard work and passion are at the core of our entire team." Q: With a decade of experience under your belt, do you have any advice to up-and-coming individuals in your field? A: "Be a shark, in the best possible way. Adapt to change, stay curious, seek out your interests, embrace challenges, never stop moving forward, and learn all you can, while you can."

Today is my 1-year work anniversary with Hudson Technology Systems. If you check my job history, I rarely stay at one job, one position for more than a year. Even before I was in tech, I was a serial job hopper. Before tech, it was a function of boredom/annoyance, and since making the transition to tech, it has been a function of curiosity/opportunity (read: ability to both grow income and skillset). At this job with Hudson, I feel like I've got everything. We move fast, we work on interesting problems, the challenges are continuous. We take full ownership of the results, which we are at best rewarded for or at worst learn from. I'm allowed to be myself, and on top of that, my attitude toward programming and people doesn't cause negative conflict, but positive conflict that pushes us forward. Everyone on the team wants to be an S-tier player, do things the right way, and be the best they can be. Igor Ulis and my team members make it 100% worthwhile to keep working here, and I have a lot of gratitude toward them. I believe I'll be working with this team and these people for a long while. But, perhaps controversially, I would still encourage those who are not satisfied with their situation to continue job hopping and seeking projects at the edge of your ability. If you hop for the right reasons, you will make gains that help you become a stronger contributor, until you're fortunate enough to end up right where you should be. Better and better.

I got laid off on my 5th work anniversary. Expected? Hell no! Transformative? Definitely. Here are 5 lessons I learned: 1. Center your self-concept beyond your title. -> Your title isn't your identity, know your true worth. -> Hard pill to swallow, but, do not take it personally. 2. When a door closes, windows of possibility open. -> Get face-to-face with the core of who you are. -> Choose your most empowered version. 3. Humanity is wired for connection, not competition. -> Survival is not a solo battle, welcome support. -> Rise above shame and fear, open up and connect. 4. Crisis does not break you — it breaks you open. -> Be grateful for the cracks; let the light get in. -> Your capacity for expansion is limitless. 5. The universe makes space for what’s meant to be. -> Change doesn’t define you — it reveals you. -> Find courage in the face of fear. This layoff is not an end. It's the beginning of how I shall be remembered. Not for what I lost, but for how I persevered, How I built my legacy, And how I helped others along the way.

May marked my 9-year anniversary at Pluralsight. You may know that, during this time, I took a leap in my career by moving from business strategy to People. A pivot into HR wasn't a move I saw myself making, but after almost a decade with the company and 6 years in people management, I've learned a few things: 👉 Embrace the unknown; stepping out of your comfort zone fosters growth. 👉 Being able to adapt is an underrated skill and will always set you up for success. 👉 Cultivating an ownership attitude empowers you to add value in any circumstance. Last month, The CEO’s Right Hand celebrated its 9-year anniversary. It’s been a wild ride for me and my team. Here are 9 takeaways from 9 years in business: (In no particular order) 1- Recharge your batteries and take breaks. 2- Set measurable and realistic goals to guide growth. 2- Find ways to be creative and expand your offerings. 4- Trust in your team. Let them run things from time to time 5- Always be looking to the future, but be present in the “now.” 6- Work is not everything. Have hobbies you don’t make money on. 7- Work with your family. It’s an unmatched level of dedication & reward. 8- Business is hard. Incorporate resilience into your routines (like working out). 9- Your success will depend on the opportunities you say “no” to. Stay focused!
