#europeanunion #trade #chile The #europeancouncil today adopted the decision on the conclusion of the Interim Agreement on trade (iTA) between the European Union and Chile. This decision marks the end of the internal ratification process within the EU and paves the way for the entry into force of the deal. This agreement focuses on trade and investment liberalisation, exclusively within the EU’s competence, while investment protection provisions are covered by the broader Advanced Framework Agreement (AFA), which is still in the ratification process within the EU Member States.

UK Government Moves to Strengthen Trade with Türkiye🇹🇷🇬🇧 The United Kingdom's new Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds MP has committed to resuming trade negotiations with Türkiye, alongside the Gulf Cooperation Council, India, and other international partners. This announcement comes after trade talks, initially launched in March 2024, were paused due to the UK General Election. ⭕️ Trade between the UK and Türkiye reached £26 billion last year, with Türkiye as the UK's 16th largest trading partner. The existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) mainly covers goods. Türkiye supplies vehicles, clothing, and electrical machinery to the UK, its 4th largest goods export market. The UK exports £9.9 billion worth of goods to Türkiye, including power generators and metals. ⭕️Both countries are now focused on updating this agreement to include services, technology, and digital sectors. Kenan Poleo Poleo, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to Türkiye, welcomed the resumption of negotiations, noting that a new FTA could unlock significant business opportunities across various sectors, including aviation, construction, and energy. The European Union may be no economic match for its U.S. and China trade partners, but it can seek to contend with them strategically, the bloc’s competition chief said Tuesday. Margrethe Vestager told CNBC that the EU had become “much better” at defending itself against unfair trade practices, and that it would continue to find novel ways of competing equitably with its economic partners. #TSINews #TSIWeekly20240616 #TSIEconomicStatecraft #TSIUSChina #EuropeanUnion #EU #USChinaTrade

Our export-oriented industry needs more EU Free Trade Agreements that are not only agreed but also enter into force. The best example of this is the Mercosur agreement, which has been finalized since 2019 but is still being blocked by additional negotiations on a declaration on sustainable development. Small and medium-sized industrial companies could benefit immensely from this Free Trade Agreement. #trade #FreeTradeAgreements #EU #VDMA
