Multi-Exit Entrepreneur | Investor | Board Advisor | Co-chair of The UK’s Invest In Women Taskforce - creating the world’s largest funding pot for female-powered businesses
PE and VC firms still only have women in 11% of key investing positions. Only 2p out of every 100p invested goes to backing female-led companies. Unlocking the potential of female-led enterprises will contribute about £250 billion to the UK economy. The bottleneck for female entrepreneurs is still access to funding. I’ve been there, pitching your business to a room full of men always feels a little strange. While some of them are supportive, there remains an unconscious bias against female-led companies. This is heightened when pitching companies that solve problems and pain points specific to women. The answer to this problem is creating and supporting more female angel investors. With the support of the British Business Bank, the Invest in Women Taskforce is exploring ways to amplify the value of women backing other women through match funding. Check out Debbie Wosskow, OBE post on how the British Business Bank is backing the Invest in Women Taskforce - a critical initiative set to enhance the impact of women investing in women. Despite women founding 40% of new start-ups in the UK, the entrepreneurial landscape for women is still fraught with challenges with just 2p out of every 100p invested going to female-led companies. However, if we were to unlock the potential of female-led enterprises, it could add an incredible £250 billion to the UK economy. Despite this opportunity securing funding remains a significant hurdle for many female entrepreneurs. Having pitched my business to male and female investors, I know firsthand how challenging it can be. I am thankful to all our investors and very proud that Sibstar is backed by two leading female investors: Deborah Meaden and Sara Davies MBE Forbes covered the Invest in Women Taskforce in their piece “When Women Mean Business For Women.” You can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ezN9AjTQ Please show your support by sharing widely. #Fintech #Investment #WomeninFintech

Co-Founder / CEO - Lead5050, Co-Founder / Director - LILA* College. Coach, mentor, business leader, Chair of ALTO
"The capital female founders receive in the UK has stagnated around 2% for the past decade." What a stark statistic!! Here are a few reasons why we at Lead5050 believe that investing in female founders isn't just a matter of equity or fairness. 1. Untapped Potential: Historically, women have been underrepresented in entrepreneurship, meaning there's a vast pool of untapped talent and ideas. By investing in female founders, investors can tap into this potential and gain access to innovative solutions and diverse perspectives. 2. Market Opportunity: Women make up a significant portion of the consumer market and often have unique insights into consumer needs and preferences. Investing in female-led companies allows investors to better understand and cater to this demographic, potentially leading to higher returns. 3. Diverse Perspectives: Diversity fosters innovation and creativity. Female founders bring different life experiences, perspectives, and approaches to problem-solving, which can lead to more resilient and successful businesses. Investing in diverse teams reduces groupthink and increases the likelihood of considering a wider range of ideas and solutions. 4. Financial Performance: Research has shown that companies with diverse leadership teams tend to outperform their less diverse counterparts. By investing in female founders and promoting diversity at the top, investors can potentially improve the financial performance of their portfolios. 5. Social Impact: Investing in female founders isn't just about financial returns; it's also about creating positive social change. By supporting women in entrepreneurship, investors can contribute to closing the gender gap in business and empowering women economically, which has broader societal benefits. 6. Alignment with ESG Goals: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing has gained traction in recent years as investors increasingly consider the social and ethical impact of their investments. Supporting female founders aligns with many ESG goals, such as promoting gender equality and fostering inclusive economic growth. 7. Risk Mitigation: Diversifying investment portfolios across different demographics, including gender, can help mitigate risk. By spreading investments across a variety of founders, investors can reduce their exposure to specific market or industry risks. Overall, investing in female founders isn't just a matter of fairness; it's a strategic decision that can lead to better financial returns, foster innovation, and contribute to positive social change. Good luck with the Department for Business and Trade's 'Invest in Women Taskforce' Debbie Wosskow, OBE, Hannah Bernard OBE and Kevin Hollinrake - We at Lead5050 HQ will be watching with interest. 👏

Great to see the launch of the 'Invest in Women Taskforce' by Department for Business and Trade- even better to see the areas of focus highlighted. Demystifying, democratising and diversifying angel investment is a critical ingredient to unlocking growth and why at Obu we're so excited (on the back of our Innovate UK Award) to be creating micro learning content on this subject. Optimistic about where this will go under Debbie Wosskow, OBE and Hannah Bernard OBE leadership. #angelinvesting #investinwomen #diversifyinvestment #overbeingunderfunded

Urge the UK Government to Halt Proposed Changes to Angel Investment Thresholds "With less than 3% of angel and venture capital investments being awarded to women in the UK, it's clear that we are far from achieving equal representation. The proposed changes to raise angel investment thresholds will only exacerbate this issue. These changes will disproportionately affect female angels' ability to access funding networks, hindering progress towards more diverse business landscapes."
