ANTI-RACISM & GENDER EQUALITY: Embedding anti-racism and gender equality: where to begin… After leading an extremely successful inset session with my own staff, I left feeling quite elated. Not only did everyone contribute, everyone was also willing to share their own views and opinions, free from any anxiousness about asking questions, leaving me with the realisation (not for the first time, might I add), that I have the pleasure of working with a wonderful team of staff who really understand, and truly believe in, our school values, curriculum drivers, the quest for social justice and our pivotal role in making change happen. Our school culture has created a safe space, rich in discussion, where we all felt comfortable sharing our life experiences and how these might have an impact on our work as educators. Creating a school where equality is truly embedded into its very fabric is not a challenge for us. It is a journey we have been on since I became head teacher there in 2016. What has become clear to me is that anti-racism and gender equality cannot be embedded in a school unless everyone is willing to put in the personal work that is required. When I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE! Emotional literacy is key: a willingness to address any discomfort and defensiveness head on, leading to the reflection and growth that is necessary to be able to focus on the task at hand which is: positive action towards anti-racism, gender equality, and eventually equity. Men, let's talk about emotions!! Last week I had the absolute pleasure of delivering an all day workshop at Johnson & Johnson on behalf of Advance – Gender Equality in Business. With 18 wonderful female leaders we explored the power of emotions at work. We looked at: ➡ How to work with your own emotions for improved health and performance ➡ How to lead with emotions for high performing teams ➡ How to dispel the myths and stereotypes around emotions at work I have delivered this workshop many times for groups of female leaders. And I would love to offer this to men . Men also find this subject tricky and yet all the requests I get are mainly in for groups of female leaders. As we know traditional societal norms often discourage men from expressing their emotions or by doing so in the right way. A supportive environment where they can learn to recognise, understand and work with their emotions is key. Also equipping men with emotional management skills will lead to more empathetic leadership and collaboration. So if you are curious reach out! In that sense, in 2021, CEC European Managers published the document "Mainstreaming Gender Equality in European Leadership," highlighting certain future shortcomings (and hopes). This paper explored the current leadership trends in Europe. It was led by ebba öhlund, Treasurer at CEC European Managers and responsible for fostering gender equality initiatives within our organization. This 2024, CEC European Managers will join the requests of International Women’s Day by focusing on European managers and leaders, who are present in around 30% of EU enterprises. A more equitable management team and a workplace with greater gender equality increase productivity, economic competitiveness, and decision-making quality. #internationalwomensday2024 #GenderEquality #womensleadership

Gender Equality in Business Seminar! 🎉 Last week, our colleague Ajla represented our company at an educational seminar organized by the Vanjskotrgovinska - Spoljnotrgovinska komora BiH, focusing on the importance of gender equality in business operations and creating an inclusive workplace. The seminar provided valuable insights on how companies can promote equality, eliminate stereotypes, and ensure better collaboration among employees. This is a key part of our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and responsible work environment, while also aligning with ESG standards. P.S. Target Gender Equality Accelerator is a nine-month programme offered to companies participating in the United Nations Global Compact, who are looking to set and reach ambitious corporate targets for women’s representation, equal pay and leadership in business. Through facilitated performance analysis, capacity building workshops, peer-to-peer learning and multi-stakeholder dialogue at country, regional and global levels, companies participating in Target Gender Equality Accelerator have the opportunity to deepen implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles and to strengthen their contribution to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Led by the UN Global Compact, this programme aims to support businesses in taking meaningful action towards SDG 5.5, which calls for equal women's representation, participation and leadership in business globally, and SDG 8.5, which aims to achieve equal pay for work of equal value by 2030.
