This NEEDS to be a popular opinion: Social media marketers don't have to be an expert in your specific industry to help you grow. I was just talking with a social media manager friend who recently had a hair salon owner ask her why she should trust her to manage her platforms because she's never been in the hair industry. Here's why this triggers me... I can name DOZENS of marketing experts (not to mention HUGE marketing agencies) who work with all sorts of industries. And to reassure you, there's also this... The business owners inside my Reels Lab membership are makers, photographers, real estate agents, coaches, travel advisors, food/beverage companies, and more...and the amount of them going viral and quadrupling their followings and doubling their email lists and sales is mind blowing. What's the craziest request you've gotten as a marketer? I'll go first. I once had a boss who insisted that I get our company active on 5 social media platforms over the course of 2 weeks. Yep, you read that right -- FIVE social media platforms. In TWO weeks. I should also mention that I wasn't hired as a social media marketer, and this is just something he thought I should do alongside the other marketing work I was doing for him. When I explained that this is nothing short of unrealistic and unreasonable, he told me that I'm not a team player, and that I clearly don't care about the company.
