Brand identities for spas are typically designed to appeal to women. However, men across the country are starting to seek out many of these treatments as self care becomes more emphasized in our culture. Hydrafacials, laser hair removal, massage and non-invasive body sculpting are all becoming essential elements in a scheduled wellness routine. When we set out to design the new spa’s identity and space, it was important to make the brand compelling to everyone. We started by creating a name that was more sophisticated and meaningful than what you’d typically encounter in this industry. After a solid exploratory, we presented multiple name recommendations and the client chose RESA. It’s the Swedish word for “journey” which describes the philosophy of the practice. They strive to be a health and wellness partner, educating, advising and treating people who desire a body and mind transformation. Once the name was selected and cleared, we began designing the logo. Google “medspa.” The result will be a page littered with soft color palettes, swirly lines, flower pedals and morphed body shapes forced into letter forms. Playing on the Swedish heritage of the name, we created a mark incorporating two different runes from the Germanic alphabet from two different time periods. The “R” runes just so happen to translate to “journey.” Fun. We combined them in a manner that looks like a trail or map across an intriguing landscape – a journey. The color palette was created from a mood board of Nordic beaches, forests, hills and village inspiration. The identity feels strong and moody, setting it apart from generic spa branding. The interior design reflects the same Scandinavian natural elements that feel clean, warm and modern. Looking for identity or environmental design?
