Protecting mature forests that are the sources of invaluable biodiversity and a home for a multitude of life forms has been our long-time passion and contribution to sustainability. That’s why we are beyond excited about the latest #news from Sengirės fondas - Ancient Woods Foundation. The foundation’s scientists have recently unveiled a secret of a preserved forest parcel in Moniškis — its soil has never been affected by industrial agriculture. #Lithuania has less than 1% of places like these. 8% of organic carbon — an indicator of a healthy and thriving soil — is locked in Moniškis parcel while the norm in agricultural sites is only 2%. Now, thanks to eco-conscious people who keep on donating money, time, and skills toward forest preservation, the parcel will stay like this — untouched by detrimental human activity — for years and years and years to come. The Ancient Woods Foundation has already preserved 168 ha of old-growth Lithuanian forests, each with its own unique secrets, and we can’t wait to see what’s next 🌲💪

Fittingly on Earth Day, a day created to raise awareness of environmental issues, the Sani/Ikos Hospitality Group is pleased to launch ‘SAVE THE BEE – The Parnitha Bee Project’ alongside TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS and in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Bee for planet . Our goal is to aid the restoration of the biodiversity of Mount Parnitha within a three-year timeframe by installing 75 beehives to help replace those destroyed by the devastating wildfires of the last few years. These hives will be cared for by certified beekeepers until the flora of the mountain has been restored. From these hives, approximately 1.5 million bees, the planet’s most important pollinators, will fly on the mountain, helping to pollinate an estimated 6.4 billion flowers per year. 235,617 acres of land will benefit from this pollination making a marked difference to the rejuvenation of the area. #saniresort #sanigreen #savethebee #theparnithabeeproject #beefortheplanet #beeahero #sustainability #transformingtourismforasustainablefuture

On Earth Day, TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas and Sani/Ikos Hotel Group (SANI RESORT) are proud to announce the program "SAVE THE BEE – The Parnitha Bee Project," a collaborative effort to restore biodiversity on Mount Parnitha🐝. Inspired by Earth Day, these two companies are buzzing with a plan to bring back the buzz to Parnitha! The project aims to replace the 75 beehives lost in recent fires, placing them at three key locations across the mountain: Thrakomakedones, Fyli, and Varibobi. Thanks to SAVE THE BEE - The Parnitha Bee Project, a whopping 235,000 acres of land will benefit from vital pollination. Over the next three years, 1,500,000 busy bees will get to work, pollinating a staggering 19.4 billion flowers! The implementing body of the program is the non-profit organization Bee for planet . The scientific supervision, recording, and study of the program are undertaken by the Department of Sericulture and Apiculture of the Agricultural University of Athens. This initiative takes place under the auspices of Region of Attica. March 3rd is World Wildlife Day and at Mercury, we believe that we have a role to play in contributing to the sustainable development of our planet. We’re committed to bringing lasting, positive change to the communities in which we operate throughout Europe. In alignment with the UNSDG - Life on Land, we work with a number of organisations involved in projects that strive to preserve and restore biodiversity. In Denmark, we partner with Den Danske Naturofond (The Danish Nature Fund) an organisation that acquires land with the objective of holding and protecting it forever, preserving species that are red listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and giving the public access to memorable nature experiences. Old trees and deciduous forests that grow naturally without human intervention are in short supply in Danish nature. The organisation does work to preserve these trees, and this promotes a habitat where lichens, fungi and insects can thrive, providing much needed food for species like Great Horned Owl, Forest Mart, Black Woodpecker and badger. Our partnership began in 2022 with a donation from Mercury to acquire 3,090 square metres of land in Jutland and continued in 2023, where our donation was earmarked for the purchasing of 3,537 square metres of land for a project in Læsten Bakker, close to Rander, allowing for essential preservation and regeneration work on much needed meadows and grassland which have largely disappeared in Denmark. Our ongoing commitment to organisations like Den Danske Naturofond helps ensure these vital ecosystems are protected and helps us continue in our promise to create a more sustainable world around us. #OurPlanetOurDuty #WorldWildlifeDay

The greatest enemy of biodiversity is the loss of natural habitat. By 2030, 30% of the global habitat shall be protected – to this end, we will need more than $700bn per year. Donations and states alone won’t be able to achieve this. We need to leverage the power of markets, of capitalism, to attract financing. Swiss Green Economy Symposium (SGES) goes Ecuador - with its own reforestation and forest conservation plots in our Reserva Ceiba! For every participant at the SGES, an amount is donated to Arbofino's nature conservation projects.   During a personal visit to the site two years ago, the SGES organizers were able to see the impactful and transparent implementation of the projects for themselves. Inspired by our dedicated team in Ecuador and our holistic approach combining biodiversity promotion, climate protection, scientific and social projects, the SGES would like to make a concrete, measurable contribution to our nature conservation projects with its own reforestation and forest conservation plots. The Reservas are owned by our charitable foundation Bosquefino, which guarantees the permanence of the projects.   Let's make an even greater impact together!
