Let’s be honest, everyone hates their job sometimes.   Sometimes the commute is extra terrible (getting stuck behind a Prius going 10 under.) Sometimes the clock doesn't seem to move. Sometimes, the work just isn't fulfilling.   This isn't breaking news; we've all felt burned out at some point.   Now imagine your job is to save lives.   These are our nurses and allied health professionals.   They're 'not allowed' to feel extra tired at work, to take a quick breather between patients; they can't even have a bad attitude once in a while.   The standards are so high because of the nature of their work, but only about half of nurses are "fully engaged" (per Beckers, Fox News, and CNN.)   About 30-40% of nurses quit nursing within their first year. Over 100,000 nurses left healthcare altogether due to Covid stress, and about 900,000 nurses are planning to leave in the next 5 years (retirement, stress, or burnout.) Reliance on travelers seems to be a permanent solution, but is tying up the hands of the hospital (that's a lot of repeated training, onboarding, paperwork, work culture shift, etc.)   This systematic problem bleeds into allied health professionals as well - those working in imaging, labs and therapy are struggling too.   Don't worry though, I promise this isn't a doom and gloom post. There's hope.   At Medasource, we have some creative solutions to disrupt these trends by reducing cost, regaining culture, and helping to increase sustainability.   Industry change doesn't happen overnight, but it has to start somewhere. Heads up, healthcare professionals! 🤔 As a registered nurse, I was just browsing Indeed for "home health aide" job postings, and what I saw made me do a double-take. The wage disparities between different types of home health support personnel are downright head-shaking. While nurses like myself receive fair compensation for our expertise and responsibilities, the pay rates for home health aides, personal care assistants, and other vital support roles are alarmingly low. These hardworking individuals provide essential, hands-on care, yet their efforts are often undervalued and underpaid. It's time we shine a light on this issue and advocate for fair wages across the home health spectrum. These roles require compassion, skill, and dedication - they deserve to be compensated accordingly. Let's come together as a healthcare community to raise awareness and push for positive change.
