As a seasoned digital marketer who is also very passionate about fashion, I decided to expand my knowledge and enroll in Parsons Fashion Business Essentials program. As part of the fashion business coursework, we were tasked with creating timeline on a fashion brand of our choice. The guidelines included representing the brand's history fully and thoroughly, to include its highs and lows, and to pay attention to historical happenings outside of fashion such as music and politics. My first thought was to do the assignment on a high-fashion brand, but the latter part of the guidelines inspired me to take a different direction. What brand aligns with our modern cultural history, is so distinctive of certain music and subculture movements, and represents political opposition, independence, and non-conformity? Dr Martens. So, considering that, the choice was a no brainer. Additionally, I must say, having just come from a job involving music, it was really cool to see just how deeply engrained music is to Dr Martens' brand identity and success. Take a look yourself.
