🔴 In human history, the innate desire for connection among human beings has been the silent force behind countless technological breakthroughs, be it social media, smart devices, remote work, telemedicine, e-learning, etc. Connectivity has been the bedrock of modern innovation and the advent of 5G networks is setting the stage for unprecedented change with low latency and high-speed connections that will unlock and drive the full potential of technologies like AR, VR, and AI. 🔴 For the last 2 decades, networks have been treated as one of the subcomponents of IT. But not any longer. Networks are again becoming a boardroom discussion. Schuyler Moore, US Central Command CTO has articulated that for AI to succeed, we need modern networks and networks can become a liability for the military use of AI in the Americas.  She is right. The coming decade will be owned by NETWORKS. 🔴 HCLTech is fortunately at the cusp of this change. With our roots in Hardware Engineering, one of our founding names was HCL Comnet, ( Communication Networks). We started our Digital Foundation Business in 1993 by managing the networks of one of the world's largest stock exchanges with a subresponse time of 2 seconds. HCLTech was one of the pioneers in introducing VSAT-based connections across the length and breadth of India. 🔴 We are getting back to our roots. Wrapping up a week at #mwc2024 - Conferences like Mobile World Conference are all about seeing old friends, meeting new people, and learning about the latest in tech. For me, a few conversations stood out as important at this show: - #6g is moving forward; last year, it was pretty much speculation and gazing into the crystal ball, but this year, the show was loaded with conversations around how we will implement 6G and why. New networks will be more open, more dynamic and... yes - lower latency/higher capacity. - Edge and Private 5G - lots of conversations around how networks will empower innovation and capacity in the industrial sector. - Everything is about the data - it's the fuel behind AI and just about any meaningful digital experience. -XR/VR - still a big part of the show, but now the conversations seem to have shifted to how we will connect and scale XR/VR experiences - again, it really is all about the network and the data. - It seemed like there were fewer consumer devices in the spotlight, but that could just be my personal experience this week. - That said, there were some really cool device innovations/features that stood out: 3D tablets that required no glasses and no special content - imagine watching any movie, TV show or YouTube video in 3D; on-device AI for phones with AI that doesn't require a network connection - helping to keep your use of AI private; Foldable phones, bracelets, tablets, and... pretty much everything! Overall, it was a great week to reconnect with all things tech spend time with a few amazing Wireside Communications® clients, including NTT DATA Inc and NTT DOCOMO.

The event also hosted key government representatives who explored the latest 5G innovations firsthand. While the article "MWC Barcelona stinks of quiet desperation" by Mike Dano portrays a gloomy outlook on the telecom industry, I believe we should be excited about the transformative potential of emerging technologies like 5G, private wireless networks, network APIs, and seamless integration. Yes, the telecom sector is undoubtedly going through disruption, and job impacts from AI and automation cannot be ignored. However, we must look beyond short-term challenges to the long-term opportunities these innovations will unlock. 5G is still in its youth, but its ultra-high speeds, massive connectivity, and low latency will still revolutionize everything from autonomous vehicles to remote healthcare. Private 5G networks are opening up new revenue streams for operators by enabling secure, customized connectivity for enterprises across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and more. Network APIs and open architectures are breaking down legacy silos, fostering a more agile, collaborative ecosystem for developing novel 5G use cases and services. This democratization of connectivity will spur innovation from startups, enterprises, and academia in ways we can scarcely imagine today.
