I explored Support Vector Machine (SVM) kernels for cancer cell classification: Benign or Malignant. 🧬 I focused on different kernels—linear, polynomial, RBF, and sigmoid—and evaluated their performance using the F1-score metric. Key Takeaways: 🔍 Achieved high F1-scores with linear, polynomial, and RBF kernels. 📈 Encountered challenges with the sigmoid kernel—0.37 score. It's time to rethink CAR-T. --- How do CAR-T cells eliminate tumors? It's relatively straight forward, right? They're designed to find and bind a specific target, and then eliminate the cell on which it is present...simple, right? If all goes well, the end result is the elimination of the tumor and the acquisition of memory against any recurrent disease. This formula works very well in hematological malignancies but issues arise in solid tumors... As a result, the clinical activity of CAR-T against solid tumor indications has many people doubting the technology altogether and shifting their focus to their use in other diseases, such as autoimmunity... However, I think with a small shift in our mindset, we can unlock the full potential of CAR-T in solid tumors. In fact, some scientists are beginning to realize that the real therapeutic power of CAR-T cells might lie in their immunomodulatory behavior - their capacity to influence CAR-negative host immune cells against the tumor...
