Why do I think that the deals between Isomorphic Labs, Eli Lilly and Company and Novartis are really exciting? Isomorphic Labs just announced a series of deals, with the 2 Big Pharmas, worth up to $3Bi! 📌 Isomorphic Labs is the brain child of Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis, and unlike many other #AI companies, they are at the forefront of AI research 📌 #alphafold is one of the most impressive application of AI in life sciences ... it makes my PhD in structural biology almost irrelevant 📌 Isomorphic Labs wants to apply their know-how to modeling Biology, which, IMHO, is the most exciting application of AI ever. #Biology is complex, and as i wrote in my last news-letter [link in the comment section 👇], it will lead to the end of scientific reductionism, which was a by-product of our inability to handle complexity and to integrate large quantity of #information (which AI is very good at 😎 📌 Interestingly Isomorphic Labs is starting with a use-case that is not "very sexy" - they will focus initially on #VirtualScreening and #MoleculeDesign ... but on "challenging targets". We can assume that Both Eli Lilly and Company and Novartis already tried more traditional approaches on those targets and most probably it failed; it will be very interesting to see what is different with Isomorphic Labs's approach https://lnkd.in/ejNK8jD6

Generative AI isn't restricted to text and image generation AlphaFold, a GenAI tool developed by DeepMind, is being used to discover thousands of new psychedelic molecules used on antidepressant drug development. AlphaFold was able to match the proportion of true matches when compared conventional experimental drug discovery methods, like X-ray crystallography. Not only was AlphaFold able to do it at a fraction of the time, but it also predicted completely different structures.
