Reality Check: What I Thought I Needed for a Postdoc vs. What I Actually Needed I entered my PhD journey with a singular focus: publications. I believed, like many, that a pile of published papers was my golden ticket to a prestigious postdoc. I was wrong. Here's the breakdown of my reality check: 1️⃣ Publications: Yes, they matter. But they're just the tip of the iceberg. 2️⃣ Grant Writing: The ability to secure funding isn’t just desirable; it’s indispensable. Crafting compelling proposals is an art that requires practice. 3️⃣ Team Player: Research isn't a solo sport. Some techniques for selecting the best research site for field research. ✅ First step is to formulate and define your research questions, what the study is trying to find out. This will also help you to determine your target population when you know the information you are seeking to find with the research. ✅ Second, conduct preliminary studies to determine the representativeness for the target population and if they meet all the thresholds required. ✅ Third, establish the viability of the potential site, this means the security of the said site, the accessibility (what are the logistics that will be needed)the culture of the people, their way of interacting with visitors etc. All these help in saving resources and improving quality productivity.
