Whilst trends and social media aren't something I pay a great deal of attention to when it comes to design inspiration, its important to remain aware of what's in fashion if you work in a practice allied to the interiors industry. When a Lady Griddlebone client requests a commission which embraces a look that's in vogue, I need to know exactly what they're referring to. One trend I've noticed being mentioned more and more in the media, is the move toward brown. It's being hailed as the overriding influence for Autumn 2024 and whilst brown might not have been considered the height of fashion for a while, its a colour I've embraced in all its shades, tints and tones since starting my practice several years ago. Many items I receive commissions for or create for the Lady Griddlebone collection have part or all of their (brown) wood surfaces left in their natural state and a shade of brown might be perfect for a painted surface or form part of a beautiful decoupage paper design. Brown is a gorgeous composite colour, a warm hue that's all around us, from chestnut to cocoa, taupe to chocolate. Without the benefit of brown, Lady Griddlebone's collection would look very different. If you'd like to have your furniture updated whether in a shade of brown or perhaps a rich navy or glorious russet red, please get in touch. We always involve our clients in the design process to bring their furniture vision to life in as stress-free and enjoyable manner as possible, from initial consultation through to delivery of the finished item. www.ladygriddlebone.com #brown #interiorstrends #designinspiration #woodfurniture #paintedfurniture

🎨 How to Mix and Match Different Design Styles? 🏡✨ Love more than one design style? Good news—you don’t have to choose just one! Mixing and matching styles can create a unique, personalized space that’s full of character. Here’s how to do it like a pro: 1. Start with a Base Style 🖼️🛋️ Choose one dominant style to serve as your foundation. This could be modern, Scandinavian, bohemian, or any style you love. It will help create cohesion in your space. 2. Add Accents from Other Styles 🌟🎭 Introduce elements from other styles as accents. For example, pair a modern sofa with a vintage rug or add bohemian throw pillows to a minimalist bed. 3. Stick to a Unified Color Palette 🎨🌈 A consistent color scheme ties different styles together. Choose 2-3 main colors and use them throughout the space to create harmony. 4. Balance Proportions ⚖️✨ Avoid overwhelming the space with too many contrasting elements. Balance bold pieces with simpler ones to keep the look cohesive. 5. Focus on Texture and Material 🧶🪵 Mix textures and materials to add depth. For example, pair sleek metal with rustic wood or soft fabrics with smooth ceramics. 6. Use Transitional Pieces 🔄🛏️ Incorporate pieces that blend styles, like a mid-century modern chair with clean lines or a contemporary lamp with a classic shape. 7. Create Focal Points 🖼️🌟 Highlight one or two standout pieces that represent each style. This could be a bold artwork, a unique furniture piece, or a striking light fixture. 8. Don’t Overdo It 🚫🎨 Less is more! Avoid cluttering the space with too many competing elements. Edit carefully to maintain balance and flow. 9. Trust Your Instincts 💖🏠 Your home should reflect YOUR personality. If it feels right to you, it works! Mixing design styles is all about creativity and balance. With these tips, you can create a space that’s uniquely yours and full of personality! 🎉 💬 What’s your favorite style combination? 👗 From Runway to Room: How Fashion Inspires Interior Design 🌿 Fashion and interior design are two sides of the same coin—both are about self-expression, creativity, and storytelling. As someone who styles both people and spaces, I've found that the principles of fashion can beautifully translate into the world of interiors. Here’s how fashion can guide your interior styling choices: 1. Color Palette: Just like in fashion, choosing the right color palette sets the tone for your interiors. Whether it's the bold hues of a runway collection or the subtle neutrals of a capsule wardrobe, these choices can be echoed in your home through wall colors, furniture, and accessories. 2. Textures & Fabrics: The feel of a luxurious silk dress or the warmth of a cozy knit sweater can inspire the textures you choose for your home. Think velvet cushions, linen curtains, or a plush wool rug—each adding layers of comfort and sophistication. 3. Patterns & Prints: Just as a statement print can make an outfit pop, incorporating patterns into your interiors—whether through wallpaper, upholstery, or rugs—can create visual interest and reflect your personal style. 4. Accessorizing: The way you accessorize an outfit with jewelry and shoes is similar to how you add the finishing touches to a room. Vases, artwork, and decorative pillows are like the accessories of your home, bringing everything together. Fashion is a powerful tool in creating spaces that are not only stylish but also deeply personal. Let’s explore how your unique style can transform your interiors into something truly special. ✨ #FashionMeetsInteriors #StylingTips #InteriorDesign #FashionInspiration #HomeDecor #DesignSynergy

Wool feel nylon carpets are a fantastic choice for anyone who loves the look of natural wool carpets but want to avoid the hassle. Here’s why they’re so popular! 🐑 Wool feel nylon carpets are more resistant to wear and tear. 🐑 They are stain-resistant, which means they’re easier to clean and maintain. 🐑 Typically more affordable than high-quality real wool carpets, they offer a budget-friendly aesthetic without the hefty price tag. 🐑 Nylon carpets are less likely to harbour dust mites and allergens compared to natural fibres like wool. 🐑 A wide range of colours, patterns, and textures available, offering great design flexibility to complement various interior styles. 🐑 They’re easy to care for—just regular vacuuming and occasional spot cleaning will do, whereas wool often requires more specialised care. Discover the Longevity Collection by Belgotex, featuring Serenity and Grandeur—two ranges that capture the beauty of wool while offering the benefits of nylon. 🛒 www.belgotex.co.za #belgotex #designerchoice #betterchoice #greatdesign #interiorstyles #woolcarpets

Let’s be honest—how many times have you heard a furniture brand say their pieces are “unique” or “one of a kind,” only to find the same bland designs with minor tweaks? Change the color, swap a leg style, and somehow, it’s supposed to feel special. But it doesn’t, does it? It feels like everyone is working off the same design template, just dressed up in a slightly different outfit. That’s why GHIDINI1961 is such a breath of fresh air. We’ve built our entire style around standing out, and the way we do it is honestly brilliant: 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀. Think shiny brass that lights up a room, burnished brass that feels warm and timeless, or sleek deep anthracite that’s bold and modern. GHIDINI1961 gives you the power to choose exactly how your piece looks. And here’s the best part: we don’t hold back. While some brands play it safe with subtle details, GHIDINI1961 leans into big, beautiful statements. Whether it’s a table, a light fixture, or a chair, it’s designed to make you feel like you’ve found something no one else has. What I love about us is how personal it all feels. In a world where so much looks and feels the same, GHIDINI1961 is out here making furniture that’s truly yours. That’s rare. And honestly? That’s worth celebrating. #GHIDINI1961 #MadeinItaly #Craftsmanship #ItalianDesign

While minimalism focuses on the 'less is more' philosophy, maximalism embraces the 'more is more' ethos, offering a bold, expressive, and vibrant alternative. Maximalism is about personal expression, saturated colors, intricate patterns, and a richness of decoration. Here’s how to master the art of maximalism in your home decor to create a space that's bursting with life and charm. Rich and Vibrant Colors: Maximalism thrives on the use of rich, vibrant colors. Don't be afraid to paint your walls in deep blues, emerald greens, or even bold fuchsias. These colors serve as a perfect backdrop for displaying artwork, textiles, and collections that reflect your personal taste and experiences. Layering Patterns and Textures: In a maximalist space, more is more. Mix and match a variety of patterns and textures to create a dynamic and eclectic look. Think floral wallpapers paired with geometric rugs, or striped upholstery alongside embroidered cushions. The key is to find a harmonious balance that feels intentional and curated, not chaotic. Curate a Collection of Decor: Maximalism is about surrounding yourself with objects that tell a story. Display your collection of vintage finds, books, artworks, and travel souvenirs with pride. Use open shelving, gallery walls, and decorative tables to showcase your treasures and create focal points throughout the space. Luxurious Fabrics and Statement Pieces: Incorporate luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk, and brocade to add a touch of glamour and sophistication. Choose statement furniture that can act as a centerpiece for the room, such as an ornately carved wooden table or an oversized antique mirror. Personalize Every Corner: The essence of maximalism lies in personal expression. Customize every corner of your space to reflect your unique style and preferences. Whether it’s a hand-painted mural, a ceiling draped in fabric, or a creatively themed room, maximalism allows you to unleash your creativity without boundaries. Maximalism is not just a design choice; it's a celebration of abundance and personality. It allows you to create a home that is richly layered and deeply personal, making every corner a testament to your life and loves. #MaximalistDesign #BoldInteriors #VibrantHome #PatternMixing
