Update on the recent changes in Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) requirements, especially if you're a food importer. Starting from February 25, 2024, these regulatory updates necessitate mandatory allergen warning statements in a specific format, using bold font and straightforward language, as outlined in the revised Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ). Products packaged before February 25, 2024, are still allowed to be sold for up to two years. Under PEAL, ingredient lists on food labels must now present the exact names in bold letters, with individual tree nuts, fish, crustacea, mollusca, and gluten-containing cereals declared separately. Compliance with PEAL is obligatory for all packaged foods. . . . #PEALUpdate #AllergenLabelling #FoodRegulations #FSANZ #FoodImporters #ComplianceAlert #BoldAllergenWarnings #IngredientList #FoodSafety #RegulatoryChanges #PlainEnglishAllergenLabelling #FoodStandards

❌ FDA bans food additive found in sports drinks and sodas The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently announced that it will no longer allow the use of harmful additives in food products and packaged drinks. FDA released a statement, explaining brominated vegetable oil (BVO) - a type of vegetable oil - is used in the form of a food additive and helps keep citrus flavouring from floating to the top in beverages. BVO is a chemical ingredient containing bromine, which is found in fire retardants. FDA also informed that this ruling will go into effect from August 2, 2024. However, the packaged food companies will have "one year after that date to reformulate and relabel their products as well as deplete their BVO inventory. Over time, many beverage makers such as PepsiCo and Coca-Cola have replaced BVO with an alternative ingredient in their drinks such as Gatorade and Fanta. The FDA’s new regulation to not allow BVO as a food additive is a terrific positive in the right direction. #foodsafety #USFDA #FDA #ban #beverages #food #softdrinks #vegetableoil #oil #additive #harmful #safety #trending #awareness

📰 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken a significant step by revoking the regulation allowing the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food. 🚫🌿 🌱 What’s BVO? Brominated vegetable oil is a modified vegetable oil containing bromine. Until now, it was used in small amounts to stabilize citrus flavoring in some beverages. However, recent studies conducted with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) revealed potential adverse health effects in humans, leading to this regulatory change. 🔍 Safety First: - The FDA prioritizes food safety and continually reassesses ingredients. - BVO is no longer considered safe for consumption. - Compliance begins on August 2, 2024, allowing companies time to adjust.
