We talked all things AVOD, SVOD, sports aggregation and launching and scaling OTT services in both the UK and Europe and also how I had my first experience into the media industry at the Royal Welsh show with Gaina Morgan. How do you deal with AI product concerns when selling to enterprise customers? Chelsey Tanaka shares two tactics that the Airtable team successfully used: 1️⃣ Give customers the option of using AWS-hosted models 2️⃣ Renegotiate vendor contracts with model providers to ensure zero data retention & training on data
Nudging enterprises to adopt GenAI products can be a daunting task, but Airtable's Chelsey Tanaka offers a tried-and-true solution 👇 Check out the full episode on your favorite streaming platform! • YouTube: https://buff.ly/3SO397T • Spotify: https://buff.ly/49pnA03 • Apple Podcasts: https://buff.ly/3ukwfSS

How should GenAI applications address privacy & security concerns? 1/ Use Amazon Bedrock's AWS-hosted models to have them share some of the responsibility for privacy and security. Leveraging the credibility of a tech giant like Amazon can go a long ways. 2/ Negotiate data retention agreements that prioritize protecting customer data from being used for model training. Enterprises are generally very paranoid about this. Bonus: AI startups should prioritize obtaining SOC-2 compliance ASAP. It is highly unlikely to secure large enterprise contracts without it.

What advantage do established startups like Hex have versus AI-native startups? They don’t have to deal with the ‘blank slate’ problem. AI-native startups are usually focused on creating new user experiences entirely from scratch without the benefit of existing structures or references to build upon. This can lead to some incredible innovations but can be daunting. On the other hand, incumbents have a rich tapestry of design, brand, and architecture to guide their innovation. This allows for more focused and impactful AI integration, turning existing strengths into a launchpad for new solutions.

What’s the easiest way to increase the NPS of your AI product? Guide users through the experience. Be transparent about what your AI is doing and level-set expectations. Transparency is powerful in that it makes your users want to work WITH the AI. Not just expect it to magically solve their problems.

Every AI product team has a “moonshot project,” and most are set up for failure. For the Airtable team, it’s the Q&A project - a way to ask questions about your data. But like most moonshot AI projects, this one has many hidden layers of complexity. What if you don’t have the right data in the system? What if the data schema is nuanced in a way that only the team understands it? Leaving these issues unsolved can create a terrible experience for users. To solve this, Chelsey Tanaka suggests creating an AI experience that makes it clear to users what the AI knows when it’s making decisions. This way, users will have fair expectations for what their AI can do instead of setting it up for failure.

What to own vs. borrow for GenAI product development 🪄 You need to OWN understanding of your ICP. Build an intimate understanding of your users' pain points + what UX will best serve their needs. Once you understand your users well, you can BORROW from prior art to implement the most appropriate techniques to help you better serve the use cases you’re going after. Start with user pain points, and the best path forward will increasingly become self-evident.
