The use of natural resources expanded into outer space. The progress of space activities has led to initiatives by countries through the United Nations to adopt various international instruments, including the 1979 Moon Agreement. Article 11 of the 1979 Moon Agreement regulates the utilization of lunar natural resources exclusively based on the Common Heritage of Mankind principle. However, it creates multiple interpretations. Thesis Lecture: “The Utilization of Lunar Natural Resources by Countries” is a virtual class that featured a presentation of a thesis written by Farah Diya Yasmine and moderated by Nashide Pelin Kurtaran. Our event proposal was approved by the International Moon Day Committee of the Moon Village Association, supporting the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) featured event. Our inaugural lecture took place on July 17, 2023, and was attended by 123 global participants, mostly Indonesians. We examined the basis of the obscurity of Article 11 of the 1979 Moon Agreement and the renewal provisions for natural resources on the moon. GUYS MY NERD BRAIN IS EXPLODING - this is too bizarre and hilariously amazing not to share... check out the newest addition to the WORLD Monuments Fund list of 2025 World Monuments to Watch and Historic Sites... the moon? 🫨🤔🫣😵💫🤯 At first... I thought this was completely and utterly ridiculous.. and it kinda still is but not really.. let me explain lol Historic Preservation is defined as the practice of preserving and protecting historic buildings, landscapes, objects, and artifacts to pass on the knowledge of our collective history... so a definite anthropological tie and the argument is (which even I didn't immediately consider) that there are human footprints on the moon.. there is a memorial disk that was left behind by Apollo 11... The lunar landing is an incredibly defining point in all of human history. The moon holds the distinction of being the first celestial body that human life reached. An archaeological site is defined as a place where evidence of human activity from the past can be found... that means that, technically, the lunar landing is - in fact- an archaeological site. Mind blown. Still hilariously ironic the the World Monuments Fund and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) now have a site on their registries that is not on this world.
