Hello, I’d love to introduce myself and tell you how I can be useful in the matter of creating videos that cut through the noise and make your project stand out right away. As a video editor, I've been working mainly for Dior and Guerlain for the past 2 years. In the past, I edited for numerous brands as Hennessy, Vogue, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent and many others. I came from the background of feature film and documentaries (for exemple, assisting to the editor of Lars von Tries, Anders Refn, on a feature by Eva Husson ‘’Bang Gang”). My approach focuses on quality in everything around me, especially in what I produce. What drives me most is surpassing myself with each new project. So the most exiting thing is to learn something new from what the material has to bring, and to see where will it lead both the client and myself. Silence on set, please!! Why is it important to maintain silence on film sets? There is always a person on set screaming “silence on the set” most of the time. It could be the AD, Producer, Sound engineer, or Director. Any filming set is a creation of 80/100 members on location & it is not very easy to maintain that pin-drop silence at all times. What is the healthy way to control this situation you may ask? There is always a solution to this problem. 1st and basic rule - Always keep a set of walkie-talkies with earpieces on set and divide them into departments. Production team, Art department, Producers team, Hair & Makeup, Casting department & Clients. 2nd - Always have the shot breakdowns given to HODs of all the relevant departments to schedule their work plan before the shot cut-off time. 3rd - Alocate spaces for the crew that is not required on set. They can stay outside the villa/studio floor or they maintain silence to stay inside. Clients must have a separate room or tent set up separately preferably a few meters away from the shooting spot, as they will be having discussions and approvals among themselves. 4th - Give the director space for Him/Her to improvise the shot as they go. You have to grab people in the first 5 seconds, or lose them forever. This is true for your videos, your LinkedIn posts, your website, your bus stop ad, any kind of marketing you're doing. People are tough and immune to advertising. You have to MAKE them pay attention. In this new commercial for Bella Del Sol, our 'grab' was to start with a bossy woke Gen-Z daughter rattling off her many dietary restrictions to her dad, who's kind of rolling his eyes. It's current, it gestures to the culture wars and to generational divides in families, and it's got some conflict. (The music and camera movement contribute as well.) Most importantly, it's not random. We didn't start this ad with a gorilla fighting a lion just because it would grab your attention. That has nothing to do with sunflower oil. The 'grab' has to make sense for the story. Bella Del Sol is ORGANIC, so it aligns with the daughter's values. There's a funny problem, and a logical solution. Did it work? Did we grab you? What Does a Non-Technical Person Even Do on a Shoot?🤔 Working in a video production agency, it’s inevitable to be constantly on shoots. While the spotlight often shines on cinematographers, DOPs, and directors, you might wonder—what do people like me, with no technical skills, actually do? Well, the list is long, and here’s what I do during shoots (which I absolutely love being a part of) Handle vendors Understand shot division Ensure continuity and creativity of shots Help make actors/speakers comfortable in front of and behind the camera (on-set hospitality) Crew hospitality Maintain timesheets Prop and set design And ensure there's chai and lots of coffee for all! Clients say " I just need a video" and then at times they're surprised at the investment of time and money involved. Why does it take time and money to produce videos? First of all it's a process. You have to go through many ideas before you decide on the approach and content. Now you're deciding the level of production. Do you need client monitors, do you need a makeup artist, do you need actors, do you need to find locations or perhaps travel. What resolution cameras should you use, and how many? Ok now it's time to edit, you can edit any number of ways. Different lengths, different proportions. Are you matching brand guidelines, or perhaps you have to create them. Then there's revisions and more revisions. How many people are involved in coming to a final product. In the spirit of Amir Satvat to all friends looking for a job - please don't make the mistake many people still do. Don't apply for more than one position in any one studio. Unless there are very specific (and unlikely) circumstances that you can do two different jobs at exactly the same level and experience, then please just apply for the job you want. Applying for more than one job says to me and many other hirers that you either don't know what you want and/or you don't know how the industry works. If you are at a senior level, then apply to a senior position. If you are at a medium level, apply for the medium position. Of course if there is only a senior position open I think it's ok to apply for that role. You may not be hired as a senior but they might just hire you as a medium and close that job opening. If you are an environment artist apply for the environment artist position - not environment art and character artist. It will almost certainly frustrate the hiring managers. This isn't just for art - this is for designers too and I imagine it's the same for all disciplines. So please apply for the one position that you want the most, not everything. This is especially important for people with no experience who want their first job. Do your research and find out what position you want to work in before applying and then apply to the one you want.
