I created this job board for my client. They serve the retail industry by providing retail shelving and fixtures, but they launched this new site to help retailers (their clients) with the industry's current staffing problems by giving them a retail-specific resource to post open jobs positions and find qualified people interested in retail jobs (full-time, part-time, or seasonal). This new job board focused exclusively on listing roles in retail allows stores to post open job positions for free and extend their reach and awareness beyond general jobs sites like Indeed, etc. Since it allows job posts to include the upload of logos and links to their websites, it can even help stores with their branding and SEO efforts. The site just launched and I'm sharing it here to help spread the word and get some early job listings posted as they begin promoting the site and bringing in retail job seekers. If you have jobs that need filled in your retail business from the warehouse to the corner office, you're invited to post your job on the site linked in the article I'm sharing. And if you're interested in finding a retail job, visit the site (bestretailjobs.com) and check out some of the job listings already posted. You can even sign-up to get alerts about new jobs delivered to your inbox as they add to the listings.

Reasons why an Operations Manager in the retail industry may find it challenging to get appointments (jobs) in other industries aside from retail: 1. Lack of transferable skills perception: Some hiring managers may not recognize the transferability of retail operations skills to other industries. 2. Industry-specific knowledge: Operations management in retail requires specific knowledge of retail systems, processes, and culture, which may not be directly applicable to other industries. 3. Limited networking: Retail professionals may have limited connections and networking opportunities outside of the retail industry. 4. Different industry terminology: Retail operations managers may use terminology and jargon specific to the retail industry, which can create a barrier when communicating with professionals from other industries. 5. Stereotyping: Some hiring managers may stereotype retail professionals as only having skills relevant to retail, overlooking their broader operational management expertise. 6. Lack of relevant certifications: Retail operations managers may not hold certifications or qualifications recognized outside of the retail industry. 7. Limited understanding of other industries: Retail professionals may not have a deep understanding of other industries' challenges, trends, and best practices. 8. Competition from industry-specific candidates: Hiring managers may prefer candidates with direct experience in the specific industry or job function. 9. Resume and interview bias: Retail operations managers' resumes and interview answers may not effectively showcase their transferable skills and experience. 10. Career path perception: Some hiring managers may view retail operations management as a narrow career path, rather than a versatile foundation for other industries. To overcome these challenges, retail operations managers can: - Highlight transferable skills and experiences - Develop industry-agnostic skills and knowledge - Network and build connections outside of retail - Tailor resumes and interview answers to showcase broader expertise - Pursue relevant certifications and training - Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new industries and challenges.

This is a long post but I find myself compelled to share this because as someone who made retail their career (over 20 years) it taught me very important and valuable skills. This is why your next hire should be a former retail associate whether it be store management, sales associate, LP or inventory control. I would do it all over again. Working in retail can teach a person various valuable skills and lessons, including: 1. Customer service: Dealing with a diverse range of customers teaches patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills. 2. Communication: Effectively communicating with customers, coworkers, and managers enhances interpersonal skills. 3. Time management: Balancing multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment helps develop efficient time management skills. 4. Salesmanship: Learning how to promote products and upsell teaches persuasion and negotiation skills. 5. Adaptability: Adapting to different situations, customer preferences, and store policies improves flexibility and resilience. 6. Teamwork: Collaborating with coworkers to achieve common goals fosters teamwork and cooperation. 7. Attention to detail: Paying attention to inventory management, product displays, and customer needs cultivates attention to detail. 8. Conflict resolution: Resolving conflicts with customers or coworkers in a professional manner builds conflict resolution skills. 9. Stress management: Handling stressful situations during busy periods develops resilience and stress management techniques. 10. Business acumen: Understanding retail operations, such as inventory management and sales targets, provides insights into business principles. #retail #profession #valuableskills #career #iwoulddoitalloveragain

Think You Know Retail? When people hear “retail,” they often think of basic, entry-level jobs. But the truth? Retail is a dynamic, fast-paced industry offering so much more than meets the eye. Let’s bust some myths. 🚫 Misconception #1: “Retail is just a temporary job.” ✅ Reality: Many retail leaders, CEOs, and business owners started their careers on the shop floor. Retail offers growth opportunities, from sales to management, buying, merchandising, and even tech roles in e-commerce. 🚫 Misconception #2: “Retail jobs don’t pay well.” ✅ Reality: While some roles start at entry-level wages, the potential for advancement through consistency is huge, with competitive salaries for management and specialized roles. 🚫 Misconception #3: “There’s no creativity in retail.” ✅ Reality: Retail thrives on innovation. Whether it’s designing eye-catching displays, creating memorable customer experiences, or leveraging data to drive sales, there’s plenty of room to bring your ideas to life. 🚫 Misconception #4: “Retail jobs don’t require skills.” ✅ Reality: Retail roles develop some of the most sought-after skills in the job market—communication, problem-solving, leadership, and adaptability. These skills open any door. Rethink retail roles.
