As we continue celebrating Black History Month, I want to delve into a topic that's close to my heart and profession: the profound influence of Black culture on consumer trends. As a professional market researcher specializing in Black consumers, I've witnessed firsthand how the vibrant and diverse tapestry of Black culture has shaped not only the products we buy but also the way brands engage with their audience. Black culture is a wellspring of inspiration, creativity, and innovation that consistently drives consumer preferences and behaviors. From fashion to music, food to art, and language to activism, it's impossible to ignore the indelible mark that Black culture has left on the world. As market research professionals, our mission is clear: to inspire and inform brands about the transformative potential of Black culture. Let's use this month to dive deeper into the conversation and explore how cultural elements are shaping the future of consumer trends. I invite you to share your thoughts, experiences, and insights on this topic as I dive deeper into this topic the next few days. Buckle up! #Blackhistorymonth #mrx #marketing #marketresearch #consumertrends #blackculture

During Black History Month it is important to celebrate the essence of Black joy. Black joy uplifts individuals and contributes to the collective resilience of the community. This month provides an opportunity to celebrate Black joy as an integral part of the broader narrative. Black joy is a reflection of the resilience of Black people. Despite the struggles, Black individuals have continuously found moments of happiness and unity. When we celebrate Black joy it is as much about Black history as it is about Black futures. It is about showing future generations the richness and beauty of Black culture, art, and stories. Black joy is about community. Celebrating moments of joy becomes a shared experience that strengthens connections and creates ties that binds us. This month a Sojourn Strategies, we are not only highlighting Black history and achievements but also embracing and celebrating Black joy. Share a story of #BlackJoy in the comments. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackFutures #BHM2024 #BlackJoy

October is Black History Month and the theme this year is reclaiming narratives - taking back ownership of the stories that define black culture, contributions and identity. Reclaiming narratives isn't just about representation. It is deeply connected to people's mental health and wellbeing, because the stories that are told about us in society influence our identities, self-esteem and sense of belonging. When black individuals and communities are misrepresented or left out, it can contribute to feelings of marginalisation and mental distress. At West Sussex Mind, we are here to support everyone in our community. ➡️ For more information, resources and events during Black History Month, visit https://lnkd.in/exzxTSc ➡️ For more information about sources of mental health support, visit https://lnkd.in/eyg5YaFP #ReclaimingNarratives #BlackHistoryMonth

Most Black History Month initiatives and celebrations are straight out of a comedy skit 👀 October ushers in a time to share one of my favourite videos ever - I could watch it over and over again. My love-hate relationship with organisational engagement with Black History Month is still toxic. I do however, given the rise of public anti-DEI rhetoric, applaud any orgs making big statements this year. Where does the love-hate stem from? Join our webinar this to Thursday to find out, as well as engaging in the following discussion points: 🚫 Things to avoid: 6 Key mistakes brands make when engaging with Black History Month that undermine authenticity. 📚 Brand Case Studies: Real-world examples of brands that got it right. 🔑 Strategic Recommendations: Actionable steps to help your brand engage meaningfully year-round. With Black history month ending, it’s a perfect time to reflect on how PIK has paid homage to this topic. During this time last year, PIK took time to acknowledge Black figures who contributed and fought for progress in our community. Recognizing politicians and celebrities that went public with their recovery as well as advocates who created safe places for impacted children. Decisions that helped propel the national conversation to this day. Black History Month is not just a time to celebrate Black achievements, it's also a critical time to acknowledge systematic challenges and disparities that have dire consequences. Substance dependency is not a discussion that adheres strictly to the color of someone's skin or what their hair looks like... 🎨✨ This Black History Month, we're celebrating the incredible impact of art on Black teens' wellbeing. 🖤 From boosting mood to relieving stress, creative expression has the power to uplift spirits and heal trauma. Research shows that engaging in art can trigger a cascade of positive effects in their brains, improving overall well-being. Whether it's singing, dancing, writing, or cooking, there are endless ways for Black teens to tap into their creativity and reap the benefits. Here are some simple ideas to get started: 🎤 Write your own lyrics or cover your favorite songs. 🪩 Dance to the beat and express yourself freely. 🖼️ Create collages or mood boards using materials from around the house. ✍🏾 Write poems, stories, or start journaling to let your words paint pictures. However you choose to express yourself, remember that art is a powerful tool for healing and self-discovery. *taps mic* As we approach conference season within the Market Research and Consumer Insights industry…I just want to say there’s too many non-Black owned and/or run research organizations that have yet to acknowledge Black History Month, yet are prepping to take up space at conferences trying to convince us that they value, understand, and know what’s best for Black consumers. Before you take up space with case studies about my people, acknowledge my people, hire my people with fair wages, advocate for my people. We are more than a case study, we are humans. We are the culture. I anticipate seeing more acknowledgement of our holiday, similar to what we see about other marginalized communities’ holidays. Don’t acknowledge it in these 29 days, don’t expect me to show up at your talk or conference about how you allegedly know better about us than us. Period. You have time - be intentional, make that statement and live it in your work. It’s Black History Month, and our contributions in this industry are often overlooked, underpaid, and our businesses are often small and stifled simply because we’re Black. Make space for us, because we are here and “we’re in research too” as Santronya Smith’s podcast so eloquently highlights. This may ruffle some feathers, but in the voice of the great Linnethia Leakes….. #blackhistory #diversity #dontbeperformative #databae #advocacy #marketresearch

for those seeking ways to do something dope this year for Black History Month, I GOT YOU… set an ongoing appointment, alarm or reminder to spend 20 minutes REALLY giving a fuck about Black people. do it daily. you can start your day with this powerful exercise, or close your day out before going to sleep. meditate, journal, contemplate, downward dog, breathing exercises, happy light…you can do any of those while you practice this new skill. **this is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY activity, too…for those who love fairness. because, as it turns out, Black people are ALREADY thinking about whiteness. 24/7. we have to, just to survive.** at the end of the month, you’ll be better invested, more aware, and deeply tuned in to how dope Black folx are, AND it’ll (hopefully) be a tad bit harder to perpetuate systems that seek to destroy us. now that’s what you call a win-win-win. it really is simple. it’s just not easy. #WE
